A$7.1 million placement and A$1.194 million cash shape Cambium Bio’s Phase 3 plan
Cambium Bio has moved Elate Ocular into Phase 3 manufacturing and submitted an updated CAMOMILE-2 protocol to the FDA. The company is targeting First Patient In by year-end, but that timetable depends on a conditional A$7.1 million placement, unsigned CRO agreements and release of the first clinical batch.
- Phase 3 technical batch completed and engineering batch commenced
- Updated CAMOMILE-2 protocol received by the FDA
- A$7.1 million placement awaits shareholder approval
- A$1.194 million cash plus A$3.75 million undrawn RDTI facility
- CRO agreements remain unsigned and gate site activation

Elate Ocular moves into Phase 3 manufacturing
Cambium Bio Limited (ASX:CMB) has shifted Elate Ocular from process development into Phase 3 manufacturing, bringing its pivotal CAMOMILE-2 trial closer to a planned year-end start. A technical batch was manufactured during the September quarter using the Phase 3 process, while an engineering batch began on 19 October and the first clinical batch is scheduled for November.
The manufacturing work is advancing alongside a regulatory plan that the company says remains supported by the FDA’s April confirmation that one adequate and well-controlled pivotal study, backed by confirmatory evidence, could support a future biologics licence application. That pathway was previously described in the single-trial FDA pathway, while the updated CAMOMILE-2 protocol and statistical analysis plan were received by the FDA’s biologics centre on 14 September. Bellberry HREC and Advarra IRB have approved the revised protocol.
Trial start still depends on manufacturing and CRO execution
The timetable is not yet locked. The first clinical batch must pass release testing and demonstrate comparability with the engineering batch, and the company cautions that the three-step pathogen-inactivation process is being manufactured at Phase 3 scale for the first time in these batches. The full viral-clearance package is also intended for FDA submission, with acceptance still subject to the agency’s review.
Separately, Cambium has identified initial Australian and US sites, but its master services agreement and statement of work with the selected contract research organisation remained unsigned at the announcement date. Execution, previously targeted for the September quarter, is now targeted for the December quarter. The company describes signing those agreements and paying the associated initial amounts as the principal gates to site activation and First Patient In, which remains targeted for the end of calendar 2026.
Conditional capital raise carries the funding burden
Cambium ended September with A$1.194 million in cash after a net operating cash outflow of A$0.735 million. Research and development spending accounted for A$0.506 million of the quarter’s operating payments, directed towards Phase 3 manufacturing, viral-clearance work, regulatory submissions and trial preparation. The July placement added A$1.008 million, partly offset by repayment of the remaining US$98,000 senior-note tranche.
Including its undrawn A$3.75 million facility to pre-finance the FY2027 research and development tax incentive refund, the company reported total available funding of A$4.944 million, equivalent to an estimated 6.73 quarters at the quarter’s operating cash rate. That calculation is backward-looking: Cambium expects cash outflows to rise once the pivotal trial begins. Its proposed A$7.1 million placement at A$0.48 a share, announced in September as part of the conditional A$7.1 million placement, requires shareholder approval at the 9 November annual meeting and has not yet settled.
The immediate investment question is therefore less whether the programme has reached its next preparation stage than whether the remaining dependencies can clear in sequence. Shareholder approval would remove one financing hurdle, but CRO execution, clinical-batch release, site activation and the pace of spending will determine how much of the stated year-end target is operationally achievable. Cambium’s longer-range plan calls for topline data in the fourth quarter of 2027 and a rolling BLA submission in mid-2028, both of which remain indicative milestones rather than commitments.
Bottom Line?
The next decisive stretch runs from the November shareholder vote through CRO signing and clinical-batch release; each is required before the Phase 3 timetable becomes more than a target.
Questions in the middle?
- Will shareholders approve the A$7.1 million placement, and will the proposed funding settle on schedule?
- When will the CRO master services agreement and statement of work be executed, allowing site activation to begin?
- Will the first clinical batch pass release and comparability testing without altering the planned First Patient In timing?
