A$1.807m cash leaves Greenwing with 1.6 quarters of funding

Greenwing Resources has progressed DLE testing at its San Jorge lithium project and pushed its Que River pre-feasibility study into early 2027. But with A$1.807 million in cash and an estimated 1.6 quarters of funding at current outflows, project progress remains tied to new financing or strategic deals.

  • A$1.807 million cash at 30 September, down from A$2.914 million
  • Estimated 1.6 quarters of funding based on current outflows
  • More than 30 DLE providers assessed before pilot partners were selected
  • Que River pre-feasibility study now expected in Q1 2027
  • A$0.72 million raised through option exercises during the quarter

Cash runway puts funding strategy back in focus

Greenwing Resources Ltd (ASX:GW1) has made technical progress across its lithium and polymetallic projects, but its quarterly cash position leaves little room for delay. The company ended 30 September with A$1.807 million in cash and calculated estimated funding of 1.6 quarters based on its current operating and capitalised exploration outflows.

Relevant outgoings totalled A$1.126 million for the quarter, comprising A$616,000 in operating cash use and A$510,000 in capitalised exploration and evaluation expenditure. Greenwing said December-quarter operating outflows are currently expected to be 10% to 20% lower, while also listing equity, other financing, farm-outs, joint ventures and asset sales among its potential funding avenues.

The company has an undrawn A$8 million at-the-market facility, which it says would extend available funding to about six quarters if included in the calculation. It also received approximately A$722,000 from option exercises during the quarter, with a further A$100,000 arriving after period end. About 36.5 million options remained exercisable at A$0.08 each at 30 September. The filing does not announce a new financing transaction, however, leaving the timing and terms of any further funding unresolved. The short runway echoes the concern raised in the going concern warning published with Greenwing's full-year results.

San Jorge moves from technology screening to pilot testwork

At San Jorge in Argentina, Greenwing selected several direct lithium extraction pilot partners after assessing more than 30 technology providers. The chosen partners cover the three principal DLE technology classes and will test representative San Jorge brines as part of the scoping study led by lithium brine specialist Zelandez.

The work is intended to help establish an integrated processing pathway rather than commit prematurely to a single extraction technology. The study is running three linked workstreams: basin-scale hydrology, DLE testing and a process-options assessment covering potential ponds, pretreatment, DLE, solvent extraction and downstream concentration. Laboratory and bench-scale testing is underway, with results to feed into the process flowsheet, capital and operating assumptions, and water and energy balances. The scoping study also follows the earlier San Jorge scoping study launch, which targeted a preliminary economic framework for the project.

Greenwing continues to pursue strategic investors for San Jorge, with several prospective partners engaged in a structured data-room process. The project holds a maiden resource of 1.07 million tonnes of lithium carbonate equivalent at 195 milligrams per litre lithium, based on six holes drilled to a maximum depth of 402 metres. The company says later geophysical and subsurface interpretation indicates the brine system extends laterally and beyond 1,000 metres depth, but deeper drilling and further technical work are still required to define that potential.

Que River study now targeted for first-quarter 2027

Greenwing's Que River pre-feasibility study is now expected to be completed in the first quarter of calendar 2027. The study is examining mine design, production scheduling, processing assumptions, capital and operating costs, environmental and rehabilitation requirements, approvals and economic outcomes.

The proposed first stage remains a potential open-pit mining restart using nearby third-party processing facilities, while the company continues to assess a longer-term data-infrastructure opportunity at the Tasmanian site. Discussions with mining, processing and strategic partners are continuing, alongside regulatory engagement and site maintenance. This extends the Que River restart study, which was launched to refine mining and economic parameters while examining data infrastructure potential.

Graphmada remains maintained rather than advanced

Graphmada in Madagascar stayed on care and maintenance as Greenwing prioritised San Jorge and Que River. The company is assessing restart and expansion options, strategic partnerships and the sale of surplus equipment, while maintaining the asset and its existing infrastructure. A new Competent Person, Jannie Leeuwner of Vato Consulting, was appointed to support technical management and future development assessment.

The immediate investment question is therefore less about whether Greenwing has identified work programs than whether it can fund them without relying on repeated corporate equity. San Jorge has several technical and commercial milestones ahead, and Que River's revised study timing pushes its next major decision point into 2027. Until a strategic partner, asset-level funding arrangement or other financing is secured, the company's development timetable remains exposed to its cash balance and the pace of option exercises.

Bottom Line?

Technical milestones are accumulating, but Greenwing needs a defined funding outcome before its 1.6-quarter cash estimate becomes the dominant story.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will Greenwing secure a San Jorge strategic partner or asset-level funding before drawing on broader corporate financing?
  • Can the selected DLE pilots produce a processing pathway that supports the scoping study's economic framework?
  • Will the Que River pre-feasibility study in Q1 2027 justify a mining restart and attract processing or infrastructure partners?
