Lac Gold drilling reveals wider Astoria system ahead of resource update

Lac Gold has reported broad and high-grade gold intersections from nine diamond holes at Astoria, including a 50-metre mineralised interval with a higher-grade core. The results are feeding a revised geological interpretation ahead of a Rouyn resource update targeted for Q1 2027.

  • 50.0m at 2.03g/t gold, including 10.0m at 8.28g/t in AS-26-827
  • 4.0m at 15.80g/t gold within AS-26-827
  • Mineralisation identified in surrounding sedimentary rocks
  • Existing Rouyn resource totals 1.666 million ounces at 3.28g/t
  • Resource update remains targeted for Q1 2027

AS-26-827 broadens the Astoria picture

Lac Gold Limited (ASX:LAC) has produced its most consequential result in this batch from drillhole AS-26-827, which returned 50.0 metres at 2.03g/t gold from 160.5 metres. Inside that interval was a 10.0-metre zone grading 8.28g/t, including 4.0 metres at 15.80g/t.

The result is helping revise the geological interpretation of part of Astoria, where the company says mineralisation may be more extensive than previously modelled. It follows a run of broad Astoria gold zones reported earlier in the 2026 drilling program, but the latest announcement adds an important wrinkle: gold is appearing beyond the principal ultramafic host rocks.

High grades appear within wider mineralised intervals

Other results included 9.0 metres at 5.20g/t gold from AS-26-826, including 1.5 metres at 27.00g/t, and 31.55 metres at 1.39g/t from AS-26-824. The latter included 3.25 metres at 5.34g/t and 1.35 metres at 5.78g/t.

AS-26-819 returned 25.5 metres at 1.02g/t, including 8.0 metres at 2.75g/t, while AS-26-825 intersected 10.0 metres at 1.86g/t in sedimentary wackes, including 0.54 metres at 26.70g/t. Those intersections support the company’s interpretation of broad mineralised zones containing narrower higher-grade shoots, although the reported lengths are downhole measurements and true widths have not yet been established.

The sedimentary-hosted result from AS-26-825 matters because historical modelling at Rouyn has focused heavily on mineralisation associated with the altered Piché ultramafic corridor. Lac Gold now says its 2026 drilling is providing increasing evidence that surrounding volcanic and sedimentary formations also contain significant gold mineralisation.

That does not yet translate into additional resources. It does, however, give the company more geological information to incorporate into its modelling and future drilling priorities. Lac Gold says structural contacts, deformation, quartz-carbonate veining and alteration are helping its geological team identify settings that may be favourable for higher-grade mineralisation.

Q1 2027 resource update remains the key test

Measured Group is undertaking the updated Mineral Resource Estimate, which will incorporate the latest assays, validated 2026 drilling data and the revised geological interpretation. The current Rouyn resource stands at 1.666 million ounces at 3.28g/t gold, comprising Indicated and Inferred material from the April 2025 estimate.

The eventual update will assess changes to tonnes, grade, contained ounces and resource classification. Its outcome remains dependent on the estimation process, and the filing does not claim that the resource will increase. Drilling is continuing at Astoria, with 81 holes completed for 32,519 metres, while 14 holes covering 6,682 metres were still at the laboratory awaiting assays at the time of the announcement.

Bottom Line?

The drilling is strengthening the geological case for a larger or more complex Astoria system, but the investment case still turns on continuity, true widths and what survives the Q1 2027 resource estimation process.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will the newly identified sedimentary-hosted mineralisation add materially to the Rouyn resource, or mainly change the geological model?
  • How will true widths and continuity compare with the reported downhole intersections once the zones are incorporated into the model?
  • Will the remaining assays and ongoing drilling confirm the higher-grade structural trends identified at Astoria?
