Canterbury Resources has launched a non-underwritten share purchase plan targeting $1 million, with the potential to raise up to $2.5 million for John Hill exploration and working capital. The funding push comes ahead of a planned Mineral Resource Estimate update in early 2027.

  • $1 million target at $0.03 per share
  • SPP may accept applications up to $2.5 million
  • Funds earmarked for John Hill drilling and working capital
  • Directors and related parties intend to participate
  • Early 2027 Mineral Resource Estimate update planned

SPP puts up to $2.5 million behind John Hill

Canterbury Resources Limited (ASX:CBY) is seeking fresh funding to accelerate exploration at its John Hill copper-molybdenum deposit, launching a non-underwritten share purchase plan targeting approximately $1 million at $0.03 per share. The company can accept applications of up to $2.5 million if demand exceeds the initial target, subject to the ASX Listing Rules.

The issue price sits in line with Canterbury’s five-day VWAP of $0.030 and represents a 6% discount to its 15-day VWAP of $0.032. The new shares will rank equally with existing shares and will be issued under the SPP exception to the company’s placement capacity. Directors and their related parties have indicated that they intend to participate.

Funding arrives ahead of a resource update

Canterbury has nominated two uses for the proceeds: exploration drilling at John Hill, part of the Monto Project in Queensland, and general working capital. Managing Director Grant Craighead said the company was encouraged by progress at the deposit and wanted to expand the current drilling program ahead of a planned Mineral Resource Estimate update in early 2027.

The capital raising follows a FY2026 funding warning that highlighted Canterbury’s $220,503 cash balance at June 30 and a material uncertainty over its ability to continue as a going concern. The announced target is below the $2 million funding figure referenced in that earlier coverage, although the company has left room to raise more than its initial goal if shareholder demand permits.

Participation and final dilution remain open

The SPP opens on 5 November and closes on 30 November, with participation limited to eligible shareholders registered in Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Canada, Singapore or the United Kingdom on the record date. Because the offer is not underwritten, Canterbury may raise less than $1 million; it also reserves the right to scale applications back or increase the amount accepted up to the $2.5 million ceiling.

That leaves the final number of shares, proceeds and dilution unresolved. The company’s broader portfolio includes its wholly owned Monto, Peenam and Jack Shay projects, interests in Briggs and Bismarck, and an interest in Morobe. For John Hill specifically, the next material test is whether additional drilling can support the early-2027 resource update that the new funding is intended to help prepare for.

Bottom Line?

The SPP gives Canterbury a route to fund more John Hill drilling, but the amount raised and resulting dilution will depend on shareholder participation.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will the SPP reach its $1 million target or approach the $2.5 million maximum?
  • How many new shares will be issued, and what dilution will existing holders face?
  • Will the expanded John Hill drilling support the planned early-2027 Mineral Resource Estimate update?
