August profit puts the cost reset to an early test
Hydralyte LLC has produced its first monthly operating profit, reporting US$4,300 on revenue of US$234,000 in August. The result builds on the August profit report, which had identified the first monthly EBITDA profit as the US business sharply reduced its losses.
Across the September quarter, the wholly owned US subsidiary recorded an operating loss of US$66,900, down 85% from US$446,500 in the prior corresponding period. Net loss after tax fell 92% to US$35,700, helped by US$31,100 of other income in September. The management accounts are unaudited.
Lower spending offset weaker Hydralyte revenue
The improvement came despite revenue declining 21.9% to US$665,200. Gross margin held broadly steady at 65.1%, compared with 65.8% a year earlier, while total operating expenses fell 58% to US$313,900.
Advertising and marketing spend dropped 54% to US$170,600, or 25.6% of revenue, as the company concentrated on higher-returning Amazon placements and largely discontinued Meta, TikTok and DSP activity. Revenue generated per advertising dollar rose to US$3.90 from US$2.28. Staff costs fell 70% to US$66,800, while other operating costs declined 49% to US$76,600.
September, however, was an awkward month for the turnaround. Retail channel revenue through Emerson Healthcare was close to nil after stock-outs, taking quarterly retail revenue to US$146,000 compared with US$212,700 a year earlier. The company estimates missed September sales at approximately US$59,000 and says inventory has since been restored across its channels.
Cash remains tight as rights issue funds the next stage
Net operating cash outflow fell 27% from the June quarter to US$249,500. That figure included US$158,600 spent on inventory and packaging to restore availability, as well as about US$50,000 settling invoices for services provided in earlier periods. Excluding those items, the company puts quarterly operating cash outflow at approximately US$41,000.
Cash and cash equivalents stood at US$173,400 on 30 September, down from US$441,600 three months earlier. Hydralyte LLC itself recorded operating cash outflow of US$124,100 after absorbing the inventory investment, with the balance of group outflows relating to the listed parent, including directors’ fees, insurance, audit, accounting, listing and board transition costs.
HPC has announced an October rights offer seeking up to A$1.4 million to fund the business through to sustainable profitability. The proposed capital raise sits alongside the operational evidence in the quarter, but the next test is less dramatic than a single profitable month: whether revenue can recover after stock availability returns while the lower cost base remains intact.
Bottom Line?
The December quarter should show whether August was the start of a repeatable profit pattern or a one-month exception, while the rights issue remains important to the company’s funding runway.
Questions in the middle?
- Can Hydralyte sustain monthly profitability once retail sales return to normal levels?
- Will restored inventory convert into stronger revenue without requiring a return to heavier advertising spend?
- How much of the proposed rights issue will be raised, and how long will that capital support the current cash burn?
