Krakatoa uncovers new high-grade zones at Zopkhito

Krakatoa Resources has reported further high-grade gold and antimony intersections at its Zopkhito project in Georgia, including mineralisation outside the historical foreign resource estimate. The results advance drilling towards a maiden JORC-compliant resource, but the company’s cash position leaves little room for delay or funding surprises.

  • High-grade gold and antimony intersections from surface and underground drilling
  • Vein 50 mineralisation identified outside the historical foreign resource estimate
  • Further assay batches expected in November
  • Metallurgical sampling and resource modelling now under way
  • A$2.032 million cash balance equates to 0.8 quarters of funding at current outgoings

Zopkhito drilling expands the high-grade picture

Krakatoa Resources Limited (ASX:KTA) has found more evidence of high-grade gold and antimony at its Zopkhito project in Georgia, with drilling also identifying mineralisation beyond the project’s historical foreign resource estimate. The strongest surface result included 1.8 metres at 11.09 grams per tonne gold and 3.56% antimony from 52.6 metres, while another hole returned 5.61 metres at 3.31g/t gold and 4.28% antimony.

The results add to the second Zopkhito assay batch reported in September, which included the same 5.61-metre intersection. Krakatoa said individual samples from the first two assay batches reached as high as 17.1g/t gold and 15.3% antimony, although these are individual sample results rather than representative widths across the mineralised system.

Vein 50 offers a route to potential resource growth

Underground drilling returned mineralisation at Vein 50, including 4.38 metres at 3.54g/t gold and 1.91 metres at 3.84g/t gold with 1.18% antimony. Vein 50, along with Vein 61, sits outside the historical foreign resource estimate and therefore represents an exploration target for possible resource growth rather than an addition to a current JORC resource.

Krakatoa is working across five of Zopkhito’s 17 known mineralised veins as it builds geological models and tests the historical data. Surface drilling has moved to the West zone, where at least eight holes are planned across four to six stacked near-vertical veins that have not previously been drill tested by the company. A second surface rig began after the quarter to increase drilling capacity.

Metallurgy and JORC resource work move alongside drilling

The company has begun collecting metallurgical samples for sensor-based ore sorting and flotation optimisation studies covering antimony and gold recovery. Specialist mining and resource consultants also reviewed drill core, historical core and underground workings during July, with their findings intended to support geological interpretation, resource modelling, drill planning and future mine development studies.

A maiden JORC-compliant Mineral Resource Estimate remains the central milestone. The historical estimate cited by Krakatoa is 225,000 tonnes at 11.6% antimony and 7.26 million tonnes at 3.7g/t gold, but the company explicitly cautions that it was not prepared under the JORC Code 2012 and may not ultimately be confirmed as a JORC-compliant resource.

Funding has accelerated exploration but shortened the runway

Krakatoa raised $4 million through two placements during the quarter, issuing 400 million shares at $0.004 in July and a further 400 million at $0.006 in August. The second placement was anchored by a $1.8 million investment from a Hong Kong-based private investor. The company’s August strategic placement was previously described as funding the initial Zopkhito earn-in and exploration program.

Cash stood at A$2.032 million at 30 September after A$2.298 million of exploration and evaluation expenditure during the quarter. On the Appendix 5B calculation, that balance represented only 0.80 quarters of funding at the period’s cash-outflow rate. Krakatoa said it expects to continue exploring at Zopkhito and will raise further funds as necessary, making capital access a practical condition of maintaining the current pace of work.

November assays are the next test

The third, fourth and fifth assay batches have reached the laboratory, with further results expected in November. Those results, along with metallurgical test work, West zone drilling, permitting and the eventual resource model, will determine whether the high-grade intersections develop into a coherent and economically relevant mineral inventory rather than a collection of encouraging exploration hits.

Bottom Line?

The technical momentum is clear, but the next assay batches and another funding decision will matter as much as the grades.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will the pending assay batches confirm continuity across the broader vein system?
  • Can Veins 50 and 61 be incorporated into a future JORC-compliant resource?
  • How soon will Krakatoa need to raise additional capital if exploration spending remains at the current rate?
