Patriot clears Tassa access hurdle as northern silver system takes shape

Mining By Maxwell Dee 5 min read

Patriot Resources has secured five-year exploration and drilling access across its Tassa silver-gold project in Peru, while surface sampling has identified a mineralised structure 2km north of its existing resource. The explorer is now preparing a drill permit application after raising $3 million to fund its next campaign.

  • Five-year Tassa Community agreement covers surface exploration and drilling
  • Silver, copper, lead, zinc and molybdenum confirmed 2km north of the resource
  • Tassa landholding expanded to 1,800 hectares and 3.1km of interpreted strike
  • $3 million placement supports drilling and target generation
  • Quarter-end cash of $2.446 million equates to 2.33 quarters of reported funding

Five-Year Access Agreement Opens Tassa Drilling Path

Patriot Resources Limited (ASX:PAT) has crossed the most important practical hurdle in its Tassa strategy: it now has a five-year agreement with the Tassa Community covering surface exploration, including drilling, across all of the community land within the project. The agreement covers the ground hosting Patriot’s 31.4 million-ounce silver-equivalent inferred resource and its much larger, conceptual Exploration Target.

The company said Peru’s Ministry of Energy and Mines has also confirmed that Tassa’s Environmental Impact Declaration remains valid and free of observations. Patriot is progressing its application for a drill permit, but drilling has not yet begun and remains dependent on that approval. The agreement builds on the earlier community access agreement and gives the company a clearer route from exploration planning to its proposed Phase 1 drilling program.

Northern Sampling Identifies a Multi-Metal Structure

Surface work at Pachamayo, in northern Tassa, has added a second source of interest. Mapping identified a 20-metre by 120-metre phreatic breccia along a northeast-southwest structure, with silica cement and altered volcanic units. Assays confirmed silver, copper, lead, zinc and molybdenum around 2km north of the current resource.

Patriot interprets the alteration and breccia textures as the shallow upper portion of a preserved intermediate-sulphidation epithermal system. That interpretation is geological, not a resource estimate: the results come from mapping and surface sampling, and the company has yet to test the target by drilling. The finding nevertheless supports the possibility that the mineralised corridor extends north in a parallel structure. The work follows the maiden Pachamayo sampling program, which was reported as identifying the same 120-metre breccia and advancing the project toward drilling.

Larger Footprint and Peru-Focused Portfolio

Patriot has increased its Tassa landholding from 1,200 hectares to 1,800 hectares through the Tassa 5 tenement, directly adjoining the existing resource to the south. The company says the interpreted strike length has grown from about 2.9km to 3.1km, while the resource remains open in all directions. The expansion gives the planned drilling campaign more ground along the interpreted mineralised trend, although it does not itself establish additional mineral resources.

The explorer is also narrowing its portfolio around Peru. It has stated an intention to divest its Zambian copper assets and is continuing an expression-of-interest process for the Gorman lithium and critical minerals project in Canada. Those transactions were not complete at the end of the quarter, leaving Tassa as the clear operational focus while the other assets remain part of the balance-sheet story.

Placement Funds Work as Cash Runway Remains Tight

Patriot raised $3 million at 5.5 cents a share, with the first tranche contributing about $2.859 million during the quarter and the remaining $140,800 issued after shareholder approval in October. The placement is earmarked for Tassa drilling, mapping and sampling across northern Tassa, as well as work at the Kitumba Copper Project and general working capital. Brokers also received 6.75 million unlisted options exercisable at 8.25 cents.

Cash stood at $2.446 million on 30 September after quarterly operating and exploration outflows of $1.048 million, including $698,000 spent on exploration and evaluation. On the Appendix 5B calculation, that represented 2.33 quarters of funding at the reported rate. The immediate test is therefore execution: whether Patriot can secure the drill permit and convert the northern surface indications into drill results before another funding decision becomes necessary.

Bottom Line?

Tassa has moved materially closer to drilling, but the next value test is no longer access or mapping. It is whether permitting and drilling can demonstrate continuity beyond the existing resource before the reported cash runway narrows.

Questions in the middle?

  • When will MINEM decide Patriot’s drill permit application, and when could Phase 1 drilling begin?
  • Can drilling confirm that the northern Pachamayo breccia represents a deeper mineralised epithermal system?
  • Will the proposed Zambian and Gorman divestments provide additional funding flexibility before Tassa exploration consumes the current cash balance?
