Xref combines platform growth with positive EBITDA

Xref Limited (ASX:XF1) has started FY2027 with a profitable quarter, reporting A$4.7 million in unaudited revenue and A$0.6 million of EBITDA. The more telling figure may be the composition of that revenue: its newer platform contributed A$2.7 million, up 48% from Q1 FY2026, while revenue per employee rose to A$355,000 after the company restructured its cost base.

The result extends the operating improvement reported in the company’s FY26 results, which showed a 76% increase in underlying EBITDA and included a debt refinancing with Commonwealth Bank of Australia. In Q1, Xref said the drawn facility was reduced from A$6.3 million to A$5.6 million after negotiations with its previous provider, lowering financing costs and adding balance-sheet flexibility.

Liquidity gives marketing investment more room

Xref also received its A$2.0 million FY26 R&D tax incentive in October. The company said the payment strengthened liquidity after the refinancing and allowed it to increase its marketing budget, with the stated aim of accelerating top-line growth and new customer acquisition.

That effort produced A$300,000 of new business across 52 clients during the quarter. New customers included Macquarie University, Akamai Technologies, Aon, Greenacres Disability Services and Lady Gowrie. The filing does not disclose how much of this new business is recurring, nor how quickly the wins are expected to contribute to revenue.

Trust Marketplace and surveys drive usage growth

Usage metrics were strongest in the newer product lines. Talent profiles created on the new platform increased 48% year on year to 48,521, while active users rose 12% during the quarter. Xref said the profile growth indicates higher engagement per user, although the announcement does not provide a direct conversion between usage growth and recurring revenue.

Trust Marketplace checks rose 223% from Q1 FY2026, with criminal checks added to the verification catalogue and further trust and compliance checks planned. Pulse surveys increased by more than 434% and Exit surveys by more than 86%, supporting the company’s push beyond recruitment references into a wider “hire-to-retire” product suite. A relaunched public API now covers the full Trust Marketplace range, with partners including HiBob, Teamtailor, Greenhouse, Bullhorn, PageUp, Workday and SmartRecruiters expected to update their connections. Xref said 30% of reference requests currently begin through integration partners.

Xref.me reaches 80,000 profiles

Xref.me reached 80,000 candidate profiles in October, five months after its launch. The company also released 360Me, extending the product from job seekers to employees through 360-degree reviews, and launched a native integration that lets employer clients move Xref.me profiles into candidate pools as pre-verified records.

The pace of profile accumulation is notable, but the filing leaves open the commercial question: how many of those profiles will translate into paid access, employer adoption or broader platform revenue? A newly appointed CFO, Katherine Landon, will join management as Xref attempts to convert product reach and partner distribution into repeatable growth. The next scheduled shareholder milestone is the AGM on 27 November 2026.

Bottom Line?

The quarter shows encouraging operating leverage and product adoption, but the next test is whether rapidly rising usage converts into recurring revenue and cash generation.

Questions in the middle?

  • How much of the A$300,000 in new business will become recurring revenue, and at what pace?
  • Can Trust Marketplace and survey growth continue as additional checks and partner integrations are rolled out?
  • Will the 80,000 Xref.me profiles generate meaningful paid activity across the employer platform?
