Yandal gains Gold Fields backing for accelerated Arrakis drilling

Mining By Maxwell Dee 4 min read

Yandal Resources has locked in a $9 million placement and is seeking another $1 million from shareholders to accelerate drilling across its Western Australian gold projects. Gold Fields is expected to emerge with a 19.9% holding, while the raising will increase Yandal’s potential share count by roughly 35%.

  • $9 million placement of 120 million shares at A$0.075
  • Non-underwritten SPP targeting up to A$1 million
  • Gold Fields expected to hold 19.9% after the placement
  • A$2.2 million earmarked for Arrakis drilling
  • Pro forma shares could rise to 515.97 million

Gold Fields backs $9 million placement

Yandal Resources Ltd (ASX:YRL) has secured firm commitments for a A$9 million placement, giving the gold explorer funding to press ahead with drilling at its Ironstone Well-Barwidgee project in Western Australia. The placement will issue 120 million new shares at A$0.075 each, an 8.5% discount to Yandal’s 27 October closing price of A$0.082.

The raising has attracted support from existing shareholders, institutions and professional investors, with Gold Fields expected to hold 19.9% of Yandal after the placement. A further A$1 million is being targeted through a non-underwritten share purchase plan at the same price, open to eligible Australian and New Zealand shareholders. The company’s chair, Eduard Eshuys, described the funding as a strong show of support for Yandal’s exploration plans.

Arrakis receives the largest exploration allocation

Arrakis will receive A$2.2 million for air-core, reverse-circulation and diamond drilling, the largest single project allocation in the proposed A$10 million program. Yandal also plans to spend A$2 million on regional soil, gravity and target-generation work, while A$1.5 million is earmarked for Flushing Meadows, the New England Granite and Siona discovery, and Mt McClure.

The timing follows a run of encouraging Arrakis results, including the latest Arrakis high-grade results, which included 20 metres at 8.7 grams per tonne gold and a 6-metre interval at 28.3 grams per tonne. The company says diamond drilling is testing the depth and scale of the mineralisation, with a further reverse-circulation program planned to refine the geometry of shallow high-grade gold.

Share count rises as funding pressure eases

If the placement, director participation and full SPP are completed, Yandal’s ordinary shares will rise from 382.64 million to approximately 515.97 million. That represents a substantial increase in the number of shares on issue, although the funds are intended to extend exploration rather than support revenue-generating operations.

The company reported approximately A$3.3 million in cash at 30 September 2026 and has identified A$1.3 million of the new funding for working capital and capital-raising costs. A further A$2.1 million is allocated to camp running and maintenance, A$600,000 to heritage surveys and monitoring, and A$300,000 to tenement holding costs. Tranche two of the placement, including A$500,000 of director participation, still requires shareholder approval at a December extraordinary general meeting.

Drilling results become the next test

Yandal’s exploration portfolio contains reported resources of about 450,000 ounces across Flushing Meadows and Mt McClure, but Arrakis and Siona remain early-stage discoveries rather than defined economic resources. Results are pending from diamond drilling at Flushing Meadows, follow-up drilling at Siona and Salusa, and air-core work around Giedi Prime and Flushing Meadows.

The capital raising therefore buys operational time, but not certainty. The key question is whether the next round of assays can convert isolated or broadly spaced intercepts into mineralised systems with enough continuity to support resource growth. The answer will determine whether this is simply a well-funded exploration campaign or the beginning of a more consequential re-rating story.

Bottom Line?

The funding removes an immediate cash constraint, but shareholders now face material dilution and need the next drilling results to justify the larger capital base.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will the full A$1 million SPP be raised, or will the non-underwritten offer be scaled back?
  • Will shareholders approve tranche two and the A$500,000 director participation at the December meeting?
  • Can Arrakis and Siona drilling establish resource-scale continuity rather than isolated high-grade intervals?
