Arcadia advances Swanson funding as tantalum prices strengthen

Arcadia Minerals says financing and offtake negotiations for its construction-ready Swanson tantalum project continued to advance as reported tantalum prices reached US$243.50/lb. The company is also preparing drill targets at its TVC polymetallic project, but both development pathways remain dependent on funding and definitive agreements.

  • Swanson negotiations with Hongkong Xinhai continue without a binding agreement
  • Reported tantalum price of US$243.50/lb on 27 October 2026
  • TVC priority drill sites identified, subject to funding
  • Bitterwasser work remains limited amid lithium-market weakness and assay uncertainty
  • A$56,000 spent on exploration and development during the quarter

Swanson financing talks meet a stronger tantalum price

Arcadia Minerals Limited (ASX:AM7) is trying to convert a favourable tantalum market into a financing and offtake deal for its fully permitted, construction-ready Swanson project. Negotiations with Hongkong Xinhai Mining Services continued during and after the September quarter, while Arcadia also assessed owner-build and other strategic partnership options.

The market backdrop has improved materially on the company’s account. Shanghai Metals Market data cited by Arcadia put 30% Ta₂O₅ ore at US$241-US$246 per pound, with an average quoted price of US$243.50/lb on 27 October 2026. That compares with approximately US$90/lb for 25% Ta₂O₅ in October 2025, according to the filing. The company says tantalum’s use in electronics, data centres and AI-related technologies is supporting interest, while supply-chain scrutiny around conflict minerals has increased the appeal of traceable alternatives.

Arcadia’s Swanson financing discussions remain its most consequential near-term thread. The company says Xinhai has completed its technical review and that draft terms continue to reflect current tantalum conditions, but no definitive agreement has been signed. Any transaction is intended to advance Swanson while limiting upfront capital exposure and shareholder dilution. The alternative owner-build route would still require financing.

Old DFS economics need a fresh test

Arcadia continues to point to the 2023 definitive feasibility study, which identified tantalum price as the dominant sensitivity for Swanson’s net present value and internal rate of return. That is useful directional evidence, not a current project valuation: the company explicitly warns that the study’s operating and capital costs have not been updated and may have changed. A new DFS would be prepared if required.

That distinction matters as negotiations move from technical review towards any potential binding arrangement. A higher commodity price may improve the project’s prospective economics, but the filing does not provide refreshed NPV, IRR, capital cost or operating cost figures. The next meaningful evidence will therefore be a definitive financing or offtake agreement, followed by updated development economics.

TVC targets advance, but drilling awaits funding

At the TVC Kum-Kum polymetallic project, Arcadia completed its analysis of historical and company exploration data and defined a geological model containing several prospective ultramafic bodies. Sites 2 and 7 are the immediate priorities, with scout diamond holes being planned near historical intercepts. The company has also extended LAG geochemical lines across other sites to help rank the remaining targets.

The work builds on TVC drill target definition, which identified multiple prospective targets in August. Yet the drilling campaign remains subject to funding, leaving the project at the target-generation stage rather than the discovery stage. Results from future holes, if funded, would be needed to test the nickel, copper and PGE potential suggested by the integrated geological model.

Lithium work slows while cash remains tightly managed

Bitterwasser remained in good standing, but exploration activity was limited as Arcadia shifted near-term attention away from lithium in response to weaker market sentiment. Planned low-cost testwork is aimed at assessing clay concentration and resolving conflicting brine assays produced by different analytical methods. Discussions with potential joint venture partners are continuing around those programmes.

Arcadia spent A$56,000 on exploration and development during the quarter and reported no mining production expenditure. A proposed second tranche of the February 2026 placement would raise A$300,000 before costs if approved by shareholders, alongside other equity-related matters. Karibib remains farmed out to Kaoko Metals, with a further A$250,000 cash payment due in April 2027.

Bottom Line?

The tantalum price backdrop is supportive, but Arcadia’s next valuation test is a signed Swanson agreement and refreshed project economics, not another reference to the 2023 DFS.

Questions in the middle?

  • Can Arcadia convert the ongoing Xinhai discussions into binding financing and offtake terms without substantial dilution?
  • Will an updated DFS show that higher tantalum prices offset any changes in Swanson’s capital and operating costs?
  • When will Arcadia secure the funding required to drill the priority TVC targets and test the geological model?
