Barys Resources has added a 110.8-square-kilometre gold exploration licence in Kazakhstan, taking its North Balkhash portfolio to 445.8 square kilometres. The expansion comes with a sharper funding constraint: cash fell to A$1.039 million at quarter-end, equivalent to about one quarter of funding at the reported spending rate.

Kazakhstan Gold Portfolio Reaches 445.8 Square Kilometres
Barys Resources Limited (ASX:BRY) has expanded its Kazakhstan gold portfolio with the grant of the Zhartasty exploration licence, adding 110.8 square kilometres in the North Balkhash region. The new tenement takes Barys’s three Kazakhstan licence areas to a combined 445.8 square kilometres and supports the company’s shift away from its former Niger uranium focus.
Zhartasty lies about 50 kilometres north-east of Barys’s existing licences and covers rocks associated with satellite-detected hydrothermal alteration, structural complexity and coincident jarosite and illite alteration. The company says these features are associated with structures that dominate epithermal mineralisation and existing gold mines in the region, although the quarter’s report contains no drilling results, assays, mineral resource estimate or economic study. Barys’s earlier two Kazakhstan gold licences had covered 335 square kilometres, according to its previous company update.
Surface Work Builds a Pipeline of Drill Targets
At the 100%-owned Dalnee and Karakul projects, Barys completed geological mapping, geochemistry and ground magnetic programs during the quarter. An August soil survey covered 14.6 square kilometres and produced 825 “B” horizon samples, which were sent to an ALS laboratory in Karaganda for gold and multi-element analysis.
The company reports seven alteration zones and gold workings across Dalnee and Karakul, with geochemical and geophysical signatures being used to develop potential drill targets. That is an exploration milestone rather than a discovery result: the next value-bearing evidence will depend on laboratory results, target refinement and any decision to proceed to drilling.
Funding Remains the Immediate Constraint
Barys ended September with A$1.039 million in cash after A$1.010 million of net operating outflows and a further A$8,000 investing outflow. Operating cash use included A$710,000 for exploration and evaluation and A$310,000 for administration and corporate costs. On the Appendix 5B calculation, that left an estimated one quarter of funding, although the company noted exploration spending is discretionary and can vary with the program.
The funding position improved after quarter-end, but not by the full amount initially targeted. The September entitlement offer was priced at A$0.01 a share and sought up to approximately A$2.6 million; it ultimately raised A$985,996 when it closed on 22 October. The report says the board is considering further funding options and regards continued operations as conditional on the success of those initiatives.
Niger Exit Narrows the Exploration Portfolio
Barys was also informed during the quarter that Niger’s Minister of Mines had withdrawn the exploration permits held by its subsidiary. The company decided not to appeal, citing political instability and conflict, and said it had previously explored a possible divestment but found limited investor interest amid security risks. Its minority interests in Botswana copper-silver projects remain in place, including a 10% interest in Ghanzi West and a 25% interest in the Virgo project.
Bottom Line?
The Zhartasty grant gives Barys more ground to test, but the next assay results and the durability of funding after the A$985,996 raise will matter more than the licence area alone.
Questions in the middle?
- Will the 825 soil samples confirm coherent gold anomalies across the identified alteration zones?
- How much of the entitlement offer proceeds will be directed to follow-up work and how long will they extend the cash runway?
- Can Barys progress from surface targets to drilling across three Kazakhstan licences without requiring another near-term capital raise?
