Flagship Minerals is targeting a December update to its 2.1Moz Isidora gold resource after an independent review found some previously unclassified mineralisation may qualify under JORC 2012. The company ended September with A$3.1 million in cash while advancing feasibility, permitting and portfolio plans across its gold, copper and tungsten assets.
- Isidora MRE update targeted before December quarter-end
- PFS targeted for early 2027 and EIA submission for first half of 2027
- Whipsaw fieldwork completed with LiDAR and drone magnetics planned
- Rosario option extended to October 2028 with final payment cut to US$1 million
- A$3.1 million cash and 3.63 quarters of funding including unused facility
Isidora review could expand classified resource
Flagship Minerals Limited (ASX:FLG) is putting its flagship Isidora gold project through a technical checkpoint that could alter the shape of its existing resource. An independent review found that portions of mineralisation previously recorded as unclassified are likely to meet the criteria for classification as Mineral Resources under the JORC Code 2012.
The review did not identify material issues with the underlying geological interpretation, drillhole database or grade estimation methodology, according to Flagship. The company is now completing confirmatory downhole surveys and density work, with Mining Plus preparing an updated estimate targeted before the end of December. That update may add classified material, but it has not yet been delivered and the eventual change to the resource remains uncertain.
Isidora currently carries a pit-constrained 2.1 million-ounce resource, comprising 115.2 million tonnes at 0.56 grams per tonne gold. The work is being prioritised ahead of bulk metallurgical testing, which has been deferred to early 2027, while additional optimisation work on oxide and mixed material continues at Xinhai’s facilities in China. The company’s earlier Isidora metallurgy program had already completed metallurgical drilling and trenching.
Feasibility and permitting milestones move into 2027
Flagship is targeting completion of a Preliminary Feasibility Study in early 2027, with an Environmental Impact Assessment submission planned for the first half of that year. Mine layout options, energy and water studies, the historical exploration database and community engagement are all being advanced as part of that pathway.
The EIA work is continuing with Chilean consultant Ambiental Y Sectorial SpA, while the upgraded drillhole and exploration database is intended to support geological modelling, resource work and future technical studies. Flagship said results to date were positive, but the report’s development and permitting dates remain targets rather than completed milestones.
Copper and tungsten assets offer portfolio alternatives
At Whipsaw in British Columbia, Flagship completed a field visit involving sampling, potential drill-site assessments and discussions with service providers. LiDAR and drone magnetic surveys are planned, with field results expected in the December quarter. The company is also proposing to spin the copper project into a new ASX-listed vehicle, subject to approvals, while saying the asset has attracted interest from copper smelters and refiners.
Flagship’s Khao Soon tungsten project has drawn interest from several parties after the company reported a conceptual Exploration Target of 22 million to 40 million tonnes grading 0.15% to 0.30% WO3. That target is not a Mineral Resource and remains subject to further exploration. The company said it prefers a cash sale, although structured proposals may be considered, following the earlier Khao Soon tungsten target.
Cash position includes discretionary equity capacity
Flagship finished the quarter with A$3.1 million, or US$2.1 million, in cash. It spent US$2.51 million on relevant operating and exploration outgoings during the quarter, including US$1.18 million on exploration and evaluation, while the sale of an investment generated US$1.85 million in proceeds.
Including an unused A$10 million at-the-market equity facility, the Appendix 5B calculates available funding at US$9.12 million and estimated funding of 3.63 quarters. That facility is discretionary for Alpha Investment Partners and is not guaranteed to provide capital, with a 7% capital-raising fee on funds raised. The revised Rosario terms, reported after the Rosario option payment cut, extend the agreement to October 2028 and reduce the final option payment to US$1 million, easing the near-term commitment but not removing the need to fund Isidora’s next technical steps.
Bottom Line?
The December Isidora resource update is the clearest near-term test of whether Flagship’s feasibility timetable is supported by a larger classified resource, while cash conversion from Khao Soon or Whipsaw remains unresolved.
Questions in the middle?
- How much previously unclassified Isidora mineralisation will ultimately be added to the JORC resource?
- Will the deferred bulk metallurgical program change the timing or economics of the planned PFS?
- Can Flagship secure a cash transaction or credible spin-out for Khao Soon or Whipsaw before its cash position tightens?
