Image Resources warns of tight liquidity as Atlas shipments fall behind production
Image Resources delivered Atlas production above the midpoint of annual guidance, but port delays and an A$8.9 million quarterly operating cash outflow left the company with A$9.0 million and less than one quarter of funding. A proposed LB Group transaction may provide further support, although it remains subject to binding documents and approvals.
- 178.3K DMT of HMC produced year to date, with full-year output expected to exceed guidance
- Port congestion cut quarterly shipments to 40.6K DMT and lifted saleable inventory to 30,062 DMT
- A$8.9 million operating cash outflow reduced cash to A$9.0 million
- Estimated funding fell to 0.97 quarters with no unused finance facilities
- A$5.0 million LB Group advance remains tied to a proposed related-party transaction

Cash position becomes the quarter’s central issue
Image Resources NL (ASX:IMA) produced strongly at its Atlas mineral sands operation, but the quarter ended with a far more pressing figure: just 0.97 quarters of estimated funding. Cash fell from A$13.0 million to A$9.0 million after a net operating cash outflow of A$8.9 million, while the company reported no unused finance facilities.
Image said it expects similar cash flows in the next quarter. Its response is a combination of working-capital support, potential transaction funding and the ability to reduce exploration and operating expenditure further. That is a short-term liquidity plan rather than a settled financing solution.
Atlas production remains within cost guidance
Atlas produced 50.5K dry metric tonnes of heavy mineral concentrate in the September quarter, taking year-to-date production to 178.3K DMT. Image expects full-year production to exceed its 170K to 190K DMT guidance range, although fourth-quarter output is forecast to be lower than the September quarter because of weaker feed grades.
Costs remained inside guidance: C1 operating costs were A$355 per DMT against a A$300 to A$360 range, while all-in sustaining costs were A$415 per DMT against a A$370 to A$430 range. Revenue per tonne improved to A$422 from A$414 in the June quarter, helped by higher zircon and titanium dioxide grades after garnet was screened from the concentrate.
Port congestion delays sales and cash receipts
Atlas shipped 40.6K DMT during the quarter, below the 50.5K DMT produced and down from 58.7K DMT in the previous quarter. Geraldton port congestion meant three vessels were loaded against four planned, leaving 30,062 DMT of saleable inventory at quarter end. Image said the material was not lost, but the delayed shipments pushed associated cash receipts into the December quarter.
The production result therefore does not translate cleanly into near-term liquidity. Atlas generated A$17.1 million of gross revenue in the quarter, but production payments, corporate costs, care and maintenance, finance costs and exploration expenditure outweighed receipts on the company’s cash-flow statement.
LB Group advance remains conditional support

Image received a A$5.0 million advance deposit from LB Group in September while the parties negotiate a broader transaction. The payment was part of the same LB Group advance previously reported as potentially linked to funding and equipment for the Durack and Yandanooka projects.
The proposed transaction is not yet binding. LB Group is related to Image through its interest in Murray Zircon, the company’s largest shareholder, meaning any completed deal would require shareholder approval, an independent expert’s report and potentially approval under Australia’s foreign investment rules. Image also said discussions with Natfort over a comparable extension to its prepayment facility remain ongoing, while Billion Sunny’s facility has been extended to June 2027 with repayments on hold until maturity.
Durack and Erayinia-King carry the growth case

Image is trying to build a path beyond Atlas, which the chairman described as being in the later stages of its mine life. At Durack, the company is refining its prefeasibility study and assessing preowned mining and processing equipment that could materially reduce capital costs. The project’s updated resource, which Image discussed in its Durack resource update, now has 95% of tonnes in the Measured and Indicated categories, while land access negotiations and a northern mining lease application remain in progress.
At Erayinia-King, drilling completed in July confirmed gold mineralisation through the main part of the deposit and to roughly 140 metres below surface. Image is incorporating the results into an updated geological interpretation and mineral resource estimate targeted for mid-fourth quarter. That estimate will need to establish whether the drilling can convert the existing inferred resource into a higher-confidence basis for further study.
Leadership reset meets a narrow funding window
The quarter also marked a management and board transition. Patrick Mutz stepped down as managing director and chief executive officer on 31 August, following the earlier CEO transition announcement, while Winston Lee is working with the chief operating officer and interim chief financial officer. Two long-serving directors retired, Jie Liu joined the board and further independent appointments are underway.
Image is also pursuing potential mineral separation, development partnerships and rare-earth evaluations, but those discussions are early-stage and non-binding. The immediate test is less theoretical: whether December-quarter shipments convert the stockpile into cash quickly enough, and whether the LB Group funding pathway becomes a completed transaction before the company’s reported liquidity cushion runs thin.
Bottom Line?
Atlas is meeting operating guidance, but the next quarter must turn delayed inventory into cash while Image secures financing beyond the conditional LB Group advance.
Questions in the middle?
- Will December-quarter shipments and receipts materially reduce the 30,062 DMT stockpile and narrow the cash deficit?
- Can Image convert the A$5.0 million LB Group advance into binding, approved longer-term funding?
- Will the Durack economic evaluation and Erayinia-King resource update arrive in time to support a credible path beyond Atlas?
