Macarthur adds another approval to its Lake Giles bulk sampling plan
Macarthur Minerals has secured a second Programme of Work approval for proposed bulk sampling at its Lake Giles Ularring Hematite Project. The milestone advances planning with Gold Valley and Destec, but the company stresses that it does not authorise mining, prove economic viability or amount to a final investment decision.
- Additional Programme of Work approval for Central Ularring bulk sampling
- Gold Valley and Destec each hold 50% of the contractual position under the hematite agreement
- Proposed sampling to assess product quality, comminution and blending opportunities
- 5.92 million shares issued to settle existing obligations without raising cash
- Moonshine magnetite development and funding pathways remain under assessment

Second Approval Extends Lake Giles Sampling Plan
Macarthur Minerals Limited (ASX:MIO) has added another regulatory building block to its Lake Giles strategy, receiving approval for proposed bulk sampling in the Central region of the Ularring Hematite Project during the September quarter. The approval complements the Programme of Work granted in April and supports planning for a programme intended to test hematite product quality, comminution-based beneficiation and possible blending with material from Gold Valley Yilgarn’s Wiluna West project.

The approval is meaningful, but narrower than the language of “advancing” a project can sometimes suggest. Macarthur expressly says it does not constitute mining commencement, establish economic viability, create production or cashflow, or represent a final investment decision. Any field activity remains dependent on operational requirements, funding, land access and further approvals.
The proposed work sits within a structure that changed earlier this year when Gold Valley assigned half of its contractual interest under the Lake Giles Hematite Agreement to Destec. The two parties now hold 50% each of Gold Valley’s position, while Macarthur retains legal and beneficial ownership of the relevant tenements and project assets. Destec is expected to undertake the proposed activities, with its mining and comminution experience central to the planning effort. The earlier Lake Giles sampling approval covered bulk sampling and infrastructure-related activities at the broader project.
Destec Plans Equipment Mobilisation, Subject to Conditions

Destec has reviewed block models for the Snark, Drabble Downs and Central regions and identified areas for the proposed programme. It has also been progressing plans to mobilise equipment, including a mobile crushing unit, although the company’s announcement makes clear that mobilisation is still conditional on the necessary operational, approval and commercial arrangements.
Ularring contains previously reported Indicated Mineral Resources of 54.5 million tonnes at 47.2% iron and Inferred Mineral Resources of 26 million tonnes at 45.4% iron. No new exploration results were reported in the quarter, and Macarthur said the resource estimates and the technical parameters supporting them had not materially changed.
Non-Cash Share Issue Highlights Capital Constraints
Macarthur also issued 5,917,350 ordinary shares in September to settle existing obligations, rather than raise fresh funds. EAS Advisors received 4 million shares valued at A$100,000 for corporate advisory and strategic services, while Paul Ryan Welker or his nominees received 1,917,350 shares valued at A$47,933.75 in satisfaction of loan-related amounts. Both allocations used a deemed price of A$0.025 a share, taking quoted shares on issue to 377.6 million.
The company said it continued to manage working capital, corporate obligations, tenement commitments and proposed project activities. Exploration and evaluation spending was modest at A$24,447 for the quarter, while payments to related parties totalled A$136,262, comprising directors’ fees under employment agreements. Shareholders also ratified the earlier A$1.25 million placement of 50 million shares and 25 million free-attaching options.
Moonshine Magnetite Still Requires a Funding Path
The larger Moonshine Magnetite Project remains a separate capital question within Lake Giles. Macarthur cited previously reported Measured, Indicated and Inferred resources totalling more than 1.2 billion tonnes, alongside combined Proven and Probable Ore Reserves of about 236.6 million tonnes from its 2022 feasibility study. The study’s economic outcomes were not updated in this report, and the company said it continued to assess development, funding and strategic pathways given the project’s scale and capital requirements.
The immediate test for the hematite strategy is therefore practical rather than promotional: whether Destec and Gold Valley can turn the new approval into properly funded field work, and whether the resulting samples produce useful evidence on quality, processing and blending. Until then, Lake Giles has regulatory momentum but no new operating or economic result to reset the development case.
Bottom Line?
The next value-bearing milestone is not the approval itself, but evidence that equipment mobilises and bulk sampling produces commercially useful processing data without stretching Macarthur’s working capital.
Questions in the middle?
- When will Destec mobilise equipment and commence the proposed Central-region bulk sampling, if the remaining conditions are satisfied?
- What product quality and beneficiation results will the sampling programme produce, and will they support a credible blending case with Wiluna West material?
- How will Macarthur fund the next stage of Ularring work while continuing to assess the substantial capital needs of Moonshine Magnetite?
