Magmatic’s Weebo assays could add weight to a growing gold pipeline

Mining By Maxwell Dee 5 min read

Magmatic Resources has completed 2,596 metres of RC drilling at Weebo, with assays due around November, while Fortescue-funded work at Myall returned further copper-bearing intervals near the Kingswood resource. The explorer ended September with $4.28 million in cash, or an estimated 3.5 quarters of funding at the reported spending rate.

  • 2,596m of Weebo RC drilling completed across Otto 2, Ockerburry 3 and Scone Stone West
  • Assays for 1,902 RC samples are expected around November 2026
  • Myall returned 38m at 0.17% copper at Calais and 36.3m at 0.16% copper at Stingray
  • Stingray mineralisation sits immediately southwest of the Kingswood Inferred Mineral Resource
  • Quarter-end cash fell to $4.28 million, representing an estimated 3.5 quarters of funding

Weebo drilling moves into the assay queue

Magmatic Resources Limited (ASX:MAG) has finished the latest RC campaign at its Weebo Gold Project in Western Australia, but the more consequential evidence is still in the laboratory. The company drilled 12 holes for 2,596 metres across Otto 2, Ockerburry 3 and Scone Stone West, with visible quartz veins, alteration and sulphide structures recorded in multiple holes. Gold assays are expected in or around November 2026.

At Otto 2, nine holes tested 320 metres of north-striking gold anomalism on 80-metre fences. Seven holes intercepted the targeted geological features, while eight successful holes cut 17 shear zones with an average down-hole thickness of 3.75 metres. The company said the drilling was designed to test lateral continuity around previously reported gold intercepts, rather than constituting a resource estimate or economic assessment. The campaign builds on the Weebo RC drilling campaign, which had positioned the project as Magmatic’s main exploration focus during FY2026.

Two holes at Ockerburry 3 tested a proposed high-grade shoot over 80 metres of north-south strike, and both intercepted structures in the predicted locations. A maiden RC hole at Scone Stone West also intersected a quartz vein at 167 metres, close to the modelled geological position. The filing says 1,902 RC drill samples, plus quality-control samples, are awaiting analysis; one failed Otto 2 hole was not sampled.

Myall results point south of Kingswood

Myall delivered the quarter’s headline laboratory results. At Calais, hole FMD0522 returned 38 metres at 0.17% copper and 0.04 grams per tonne gold from 324 metres. At Stingray, immediately southwest of the 2023 Kingswood Inferred Mineral Resource, FMD0528 returned 36.3 metres at 0.16% copper and 0.03 grams per tonne gold from 400 metres, alongside a separate 39-metre interval at 0.13% copper.

The Stingray result matters because Magmatic interprets it as potentially indicative of mineralisation continuing beyond the existing Kingswood resource envelope. That is an interpretation of exploration drilling, not a change to the resource itself. Myall’s wider FY2026 program, funded under Fortescue’s farm-in arrangement, comprised 16 diamond holes for 6,240.4 metres and 42 aircore holes for 4,169 metres. Fortescue may earn up to 75% of the project by spending $14 million under the agreement.

Other results were mixed across the target pipeline. SLR returned 4 metres at 0.20% copper and 1.55 grams per tonne gold from 336 metres, while Gemini produced 10.9 metres at 0.13% copper and 0.09 grams per tonne gold. At Calais Trend, one hole returned 2 metres at 2.8 grams per tonne gold, 0.2% copper, 0.7% lead and 1.0% zinc, which Magmatic interprets as distal to a porphyry centre. Further Myall work, including proposed Calais follow-up drilling, remains subject to Exploration Committee approval.

Cash runway leaves limited room for delay

Magmatic finished the quarter with $4.282 million in cash after net operating outflows of $1.222 million, including $953,000 on exploration and evaluation. The company reported no drawn financing facilities and estimated 3.5 quarters of funding based on the quarter’s cash usage. That measure is a snapshot rather than a forecast: drilling intensity, Fortescue contributions and any future capital activity could alter the pace of depletion.

The immediate catalyst is therefore unusually clear. November assays will determine whether Weebo’s visually encouraging structures translate into meaningful gold grades, while approval of the FY2026/27 Myall program will establish how quickly Magmatic can test the interpreted extension south of Kingswood. Until then, the company has geological momentum, but not yet the assay data needed to turn that momentum into a stronger exploration case.

Bottom Line?

November’s Weebo assays and approval of the next Myall work program are the two near-term tests of whether Magmatic can convert drilling activity into a larger, better-defined exploration opportunity before its cash buffer tightens.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will the Weebo RC assays confirm continuous gold mineralisation across the Otto 2 and Ockerburry 3 target zones?
  • Will the Exploration Committee approve follow-up drilling at Calais and Stingray for FY2026/27?
  • How will Magmatic’s cash position change as exploration spending continues and Fortescue’s funding obligations progress?
