McLaren’s strong assay run faces a 0.8-quarter funding runway

McLaren Minerals has completed its 663-hole McLaren Titanium drilling campaign and reported consistently strong heavy mineral grades. But with A$1.145 million in cash, only 0.8 quarters of funding and a planned equity raise, the next stage comes with a clear financing question.

  • 663 holes drilled for 11,568 metres at the McLaren Titanium Project
  • Best assay batch averaged 5.44% heavy mineral over 16.2 metres
  • First stage of the Bankable Feasibility Study completed on time and within budget
  • A$1.145 million cash balance implies 0.8 quarters of funding
  • Additional equity funding planned, with timing and terms undecided

Strong drilling results meet an immediate funding test

McLaren Minerals Limited (ASX:MML) has finished the main technical push at its Western Australian titanium project, but its quarterly cash position now puts funding alongside geology at the centre of the story. The company ended 30 September with A$1.145 million in cash, equivalent to an estimated 0.8 quarters of funding under its current reporting assumptions, and said it plans to seek additional equity.

The cash balance fell from A$2.625 million at the end of June after A$1.162 million was spent on exploration and evaluation, A$275,000 on operating activities and A$43,000 on equity issue costs. McLaren said the September quarter included drilling and associated project costs, while its forecast assumes lower aggregate expenditure in the December quarter. It also warned that discretionary work could be deferred or reduced if new funding is delayed or unavailable.

663-hole campaign completes the resource work

McLaren drilled all 663 planned collars for a total of 11,568 metres, using 86% of the planned metres. The programme combined resource infill drilling with step-out work to the south-west and south-east, variography drilling and testing of a potential eastern shoreline target.

The campaign is intended to support an updated Mineral Resource estimate and, after further technical work, a maiden Ore Reserve. The first stage of the Bankable Feasibility Study was completed on time and within budget, following the earlier 663-hole drilling campaign reported during the study’s progression.

Near-surface heavy mineral grades remain consistent

Four assay batches released during the quarter covered 382 holes and 6,759 metres of complete sampled intervals. The strongest batch comprised 74 holes averaging 5.44% heavy mineral over 16.2 metres, with 89% of holes averaging at least 4% and 32% averaging at least 6%.

Standout intersections included 18 metres at 8.06% heavy mineral in MAC435, 21 metres at 7.61% in MAC470 and 24 metres at 7.54% in MAC467. The latter result extended the run of broad, near-surface mineralisation highlighted by the 24m at 7.54% result, although the company cautioned that these assay results do not yet establish an Ore Reserve or project economics.

The results were reported from surface with no heavy mineral cut-off applied, and grades represent length-weighted averages across each hole’s complete sampled interval. Their significance for mine design, production scheduling, processing or economics remains subject to the updated resource model, metallurgical test work and detailed mining studies.

Resource update and capital raising now set the next milestones

McLaren’s December-quarter priorities are to receive the remaining assays, including one incomplete drill hole, integrate the full dataset into its geological model and resource estimate, and advance metallurgical and feasibility work. It also continues to await transfer of the Barossa Zircon Project tenements in South Australia, where a first-pass exploration programme is ready to begin once the transfer and regulatory requirements are complete.

The company said a further equity raising is achievable, but gave no size, timing or terms. That leaves the project’s technical momentum running ahead of its disclosed balance sheet: the next resource result may improve the development case, while the financing required to keep advancing it could determine how quickly that case can be tested.

Bottom Line?

McLaren has completed the drilling phase with encouraging grades, but the project now needs both a resource update and fresh capital before its feasibility ambitions can move much further.

Questions in the middle?

  • How large and on what terms will McLaren’s proposed equity raising be?
  • Will the updated Mineral Resource convert the strong assay consistency into a maiden Ore Reserve?
  • Can expenditure remain below the September quarter level while metallurgical and feasibility work continues?
