Middle Island’s Bobija System Expands as Serbia Portfolio Gains Momentum

Middle Island Resources has connected three mineralised zones at its Bobija project in Serbia into an 80,000-square-metre shallow polymetallic system, while confirming sizeable copper and gold targets elsewhere in its portfolio. The explorer is also shedding its Northern Territory licences to reduce annual commitments by about $400,000, but reported only $1.694 million in quarter-end cash.

  • Bobija zones linked across an 80,000m² open-ended target
  • Broad gold, silver, copper, lead and zinc intersections from surface
  • Large copper anomalies confirmed at Jelaca and Oglavak
  • Northern Territory licences to be divested for cash and royalty exposure
  • Appendix 5B reports 2.43 quarters of available funding

Bobija Drilling Connects Three Mineralised Zones

Middle Island Resources Limited (ASX:MDI) has turned Bobija from a collection of separate mineralised zones into a single priority exploration target, linking the Central, West and North zones across approximately 80,000 square metres. The shallow, subhorizontal gold-silver-base metal horizon remains open in all directions, with the strongest intersections arriving near the current limits of drilling.

The final Phase 2 reverse-circulation results included 40 metres at 1.23 grams per tonne gold, 64.0g/t silver, 0.15% copper, 0.99% lead and 0.92% zinc from one metre in hole BMLRC023. BMLRC022 returned 41 metres at 1.03g/t gold and 52.9g/t silver from one metre, while BMLRC028 delivered 28 metres at 1.18g/t gold and 66.6g/t silver from 20 metres. The intersections were reported above a 0.2g/t gold or 0.5% zinc lower cut-off and are exploration results, not a mineral resource or reserve.

Within those broad zones, higher-grade intervals included 13 metres at 2.31g/t gold and 136.6g/t silver in BMLRC023, and six metres at 1.94g/t gold, 163.5g/t silver, 0.67% copper, 4.20% lead and 3.79% zinc in BMLRC022. The latest results extend the story developed in the Phase 2 Bobija drilling, which previously defined the same broad mineralised footprint and highlighted a separate polymetallic target at Tisovik.

Priboj Copper Targets Move Towards Drilling

At Priboj, infill sampling has confirmed large copper-in-soil anomalies at Jelaca and Oglavak. Jelaca contains a core anomaly above 200 parts per million copper extending about 900 metres by up to 400 metres, while Oglavak’s comparable anomaly covers roughly 600 metres by up to 400 metres. New Jelaca rock chips assayed up to 3.21% copper and 26.0g/t silver, adding surface evidence to the soil geochemistry.

The company has designed an initial RC drilling programme at Jelaca, subject to land access approval. Further work at Jermovac is conditional on renewal of that licence for its second three-year term. The targets build on the Jelaca and Oglavak copper anomalies, but the filing does not yet establish the depth, continuity or economic significance of any mineralisation below surface.

Ober Gold Targets Add Another Exploration Front

Sampling at the Ober licence has produced two broad gold targets in an area where the company says no historic gold exploration has been reported. At Zabrnjica, a core zone above 10 parts per billion gold extends about 450 metres by up to 200 metres within a broader anomalous area of roughly 500 metres by 500 metres. Rock chips returned up to 0.94g/t gold from float and 0.28g/t from outcrop.

Beli Potok hosts two zones above the same soil threshold across an area of approximately 1,000 metres by 500 metres. Rock chips reached 0.44g/t gold in float and 0.38g/t in outcrop, with expanded rock-chip sampling and geological mapping now under way. These results extend the Zabrnjica and Beli Potok targets, though they remain geochemical and surface indicators rather than evidence of a defined deposit.

Northern Territory Exit Cuts Commitments

Middle Island has agreed to divest its Georgina and Barkly exploration licences in the Northern Territory to Alroy Copper for $50,000 cash, the return of a $68,332 rehabilitation bond and a 1.5% net smelter royalty on copper produced from the tenements. The package covers about 4,200 square kilometres across nine licences, seven granted and two applications.

The transaction is intended to remove approximately $400,000 a year in rates, rents and exploration commitments, allowing the company to concentrate on Serbia. That portfolio shift comes with a near-term funding constraint: the Appendix 5B records $1.694 million in cash and cash equivalents at 30 September, after $697,000 of operating cash outflow during the quarter, implying 2.43 quarters of funding at the reported rate. The corporate section separately refers to $2.4 million in cash and listed investments, a distinction that leaves the precise pool available for exploration worth clarifying.

Bottom Line?

The Serbian portfolio is generating multiple drill-ready ideas, but the next phase must convert surface anomalies into continuity while Middle Island manages a cash runway measured in quarters, not years.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will land access approval allow the planned Jelaca RC programme to proceed, and what will drilling reveal beneath the large copper anomaly?
  • Can Bobija’s 80,000m² polymetallic footprint support a future mineral resource, or will further drilling expose discontinuity between the linked zones?
  • How will Middle Island fund the next exploration campaign once its reported 2.43 quarters of cash coverage begin to tighten?
