TerraNova Metals has assembled six priority targets at its Nielle Gold Project in Côte d’Ivoire and is preparing a 2,500-3,000 metre maiden drilling campaign, backed by a $4.075 million placement. The headline Exploration Target spans up to 1.4 million ounces, but remains conceptual and depends on a permit that has not yet been granted.
- Six priority gold targets defined across the 212km² Nielle project
- Conceptual Target 1 estimate of 17-26Mt at 1.4-1.7g/t gold
- 2,500-3,000m RC and diamond drilling being prepared
- $4.075m placement completed at $0.075 per share
- Nielle permit grant remains a condition for acquisition and drilling
Nielle moves from data review towards drilling
TerraNova Metals Ltd (ASX:TNM) has turned a large historical exploration database into a six-target drilling strategy at its Nielle Gold Project in northern Côte d’Ivoire, with the company now preparing to test the most advanced zone. The project’s main 4.5km mineralised trend has been only lightly drilled, and TerraNova says the known mineralisation remains open at depth and along strike.
The review covered 40 reverse-circulation holes, 362 air-core holes, 716 auger holes, soil sampling, trenching, satellite imagery and airborne magnetics. Targets 1, 2 and 3 sit along the principal trend, with Target 1 carrying the existing RC drilling and Target 2 emerging as the first greenfields priority after positive auger geochemistry. Targets 4, 5 and 6 require tighter geophysical and soil sampling before drill targeting can be refined.
Conceptual target points to scale, not a resource
The most striking number in the report is the independent Exploration Target for Target 1, disclosed after quarter-end: 17-26 million tonnes grading 1.4-1.7 grams per tonne gold, equivalent to approximately 0.8-1.4 million ounces of contained gold. The estimate was prepared by Ann Ledwidge of Ledex, a West African orogenic gold specialist.
That figure is a starting framework rather than a Mineral Resource. TerraNova states that the target is conceptual, that there has been insufficient exploration to estimate a resource, and that further exploration may not result in one. The historical drilling data has also not yet been independently verified by TerraNova, while true widths of the reported intersections remain unknown.
Historical drilling adds high-grade evidence
The database review uncovered previously unreported intersections including 2 metres at 2.75g/t gold from 14 metres in RC hole NLRC009, 8 metres at 1.52g/t from 58 metres in NLRC011, and 4 metres at 2.22g/t from 62 metres in NLRC024. Air-core results included 8 metres at 3.65g/t from surface, including 3 metres at 9.29g/t, in NLAC028.
Those results sit alongside previously disclosed RC intersections such as 5 metres at 15.42g/t gold from 7 metres and 13 metres at 5.07g/t from 12 metres. The company says the combined data supports continuity along the trend, although the intervals are downhole lengths and the air-core results were reported without a cut-off.
Permit decision gates the maiden programme
TerraNova is planning 2,500-3,000 metres of RC and diamond drilling at Target 1, alongside a maiden air-core programme at Target 2. Diamond drilling would provide structural, alteration and sulphide information needed to improve geological modelling and assess continuity ahead of any future resource work.
The timetable remains conditional. The Nielle permit application has been accepted by Côte d’Ivoire’s minerals commission but still awaits formal grant from the Ministry of Mines, Petroleum and Energy. The permit is also a condition precedent to TerraNova completing its proposed acquisition of a 90% interest in Nielle. The company anticipates the grant in the December quarter and is engaging drilling contractors in readiness, but no drilling start is assured by the report.
Funding secured as TerraNova reshapes its portfolio
TerraNova raised $4.075 million before costs through a placement priced at $0.075 per share, including $1.21 million settled after quarter-end following shareholder approval. It held A$3.356 million in cash at 30 September, before the second tranche, while quarterly exploration expenditure was A$517,000 and net operating cash outflow was A$874,000.
The funds are earmarked for Nielle acquisition and exploration costs, Meekatharra target generation and drilling, and corporate purposes. The company also completed its rebrand from Castle Minerals to TerraNova Metals, with the ASX code changing to TNM on 26 October. Ghana remains a portfolio clean-up item after a proposed US$400,000 divestment failed to progress; TerraNova says it has received interest from two other parties.
Bottom Line?
The next value-defining event is not the conceptual ounce range but whether the permit is granted and drilling can test Target 1 with verified data.
Questions in the middle?
- When will the Nielle exploration permit be formally granted, allowing the proposed acquisition and drilling programme to proceed?
- Will diamond and RC drilling confirm the continuity, depth and true widths implied by the historical intersections?
- How much of the new placement will be directed to Nielle before the Meekatharra portfolio begins competing for exploration capital?
