$42.1m assets support Zuleika Gold exploration after takeover ends

Mining By Maxwell Dee 4 min read

Zuleika Gold will resume its exploration-led strategy after CZR Resources formally withdrew its all-scrip takeover offer. The company ended September debt-free with $42.1 million in cash and liquid assets, while assays and several drilling programmes remain ahead.

  • CZR takeover ends after shareholder approval conditions failed
  • $42.1 million in cash and liquid assets, including $17.2 million cash
  • White Flag sampling completed, with assays due in the December quarter
  • Drilling approvals advanced across Credo, White Flag and Zuleika North
  • 113 million options exercised for $2.26 million in proceeds

CZR Takeover Ends as Exploration Strategy Resumes

Zuleika Gold Limited (ASX:ZAG) is back to charting its own course after CZR Resources formally withdrew its proposed all-scrip takeover. The offer ended when CZR shareholders failed to approve the acquisition of shares held by Yandal Investments and executive chair Annie Guo, along with the proposed issue of new CZR shares.

The collapse leaves Zuleika with a sizeable funding base for exploration rather than the merged structure previously put to shareholders. The company reported $42.1 million in cash and liquid assets at 30 September, comprising $17.2 million in cash and cash equivalents and a $24.9 million fair value for its CYL investment. It also reported no debt. The earlier CZR scrip takeover offer had been recommended by Zuleika’s board, but the transaction was conditional on shareholder and other approvals that were not secured.

White Flag Sampling Sets Up December Assays

Fieldwork at White Flag has now supplied the next near-term exploration test. Zuleika collected 176 soil samples on a 160-metre staggered grid across the Carnage Shear corridor in September, alongside eight rock-chip samples from the wider Zuleika ground. The samples have been submitted for ultrafine-fraction multi-element analysis, with results expected during the December quarter.

The programme was the first systematic surface geochemistry campaign across the corridor, which extends about 20 kilometres towards its intersection with the Black Flag structural corridor. Zuleika described the area as comparatively lightly explored, but the filing does not yet provide assay results or a new mineral resource from the work.

Drill Approvals Advance Across Four Prospects

Drill planning moved forward across Credo, Zuleika North, Paradigm and White Flag. White Flag’s aircore programme has been approved and is ready to drill, although the new soil results will be used to refine collar positions. Credo has approval for reverse circulation, aircore and diamond drilling, while an aircore programme at Zuleika North was lodged in September and approved shortly after the quarter ended.

At Paradigm East, where the company reported a 12,600-ounce inferred resource earlier this year, planning has advanced for deeper drilling aimed at defining the geometry, continuity and grade distribution of primary bedrock mineralisation. That work follows the Paradigm East maiden resource, which formed part of the company’s combined 35,200-ounce Credo Well and Paradigm East resource estimate.

Cash Position Supports Multi-Project Programme

Zuleika spent $296,000 on exploration and evaluation during the quarter and $321,000 on administration, legal and consulting costs, including expenses related to the potential merger. It received $2.26 million from the exercise of 113.0 million options at 2 cents each, leaving cash and cash equivalents at $17.24 million at quarter end.

The company’s stated priorities at Credo include deeper resource drilling around Credo Well, diamond drilling for metallurgical, density and structural work, and broader camp-scale exploration. Heritage agreement negotiations with the Marlinyu Ghoorlie native title party and several mining lease processes are also continuing, adding land access and approvals to the list of practical hurdles before drilling can fully translate into resource growth.

Bottom Line?

Zuleika has the liquidity to fund a substantial exploration push, but the investment case now depends on whether pending assays and approved drilling can produce evidence beyond its existing small resource base.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will White Flag’s first systematic surface geochemistry identify targets strong enough to change drilling priorities?
  • How quickly will approved drilling begin at White Flag, Credo and Zuleika North, and what results will it deliver?
  • With the CZR transaction ended, how will Zuleika deploy its $42.1 million in cash and liquid assets across exploration and project development?
