ASX Queries 26.5% Share Price Fall

4DMedical Limited (ASX:4DX) has rejected the suggestion that undisclosed company information was behind a sharp move in its shares, after the ASX queried a fall from $3.28 at the close of 29 October to a low of $2.41 on 30 October. The exchange also pointed to a significant increase in trading volume.

In its response dated 2 November, 4DMedical said it was not aware of any unannounced information that could explain the trading. The move represented a decline of about 26.5% between the cited prices, although the filing does not state where the shares ultimately closed.

Company Points to Short Interest

Asked whether it had any other explanation, the company said that, to the best of its knowledge, it believed an increase in short interest was responsible for the recent activity. That is 4DMedical’s explanation rather than an independently verified finding in the announcement, and the filing provides no figures for short positions or trading volumes.

The exchange’s query was issued under Listing Rule 18.7 and focused on whether any information might have escaped the company’s continuous disclosure obligations. 4DMedical answered that it was complying with the ASX Listing Rules, including Listing Rule 3.1, which covers the immediate disclosure of market-sensitive information unless an exception applies.

No New Operational Information Disclosed

The response does not add new information about 4DMedical’s medical imaging business. That matters because the company had reported strong operating momentum in its latest quarterly update, including 119,672 scans and unaudited operating revenue of $2.3 million, but the price-query response neither links the sell-off to those figures nor revises them.

The company confirmed that its reply had been authorised by the Chair and chief executive on behalf of the board under its continuous disclosure policy. The immediate issue is therefore less a new business development than whether the unusual trading persists, and whether any further explanation emerges through subsequent market disclosures or exchange action.

Bottom Line?

The filing closes the immediate disclosure question, but leaves the trading pattern and the claimed rise in short interest to be tested by future market activity.

Questions in the middle?

  • Did short interest actually rise by enough to explain the scale and timing of the sell-off?
  • Will 4DMedical issue any further disclosure if unusual volume or price pressure continues?
  • Does the share price move alter market sentiment despite the company reporting no undisclosed information?
