INOVIQ puts Sonic Healthcare behind its US ovarian cancer test
INOVIQ has secured a validation agreement with Sonic Healthcare USA for its EXO-OC ovarian cancer test, opening a potential route into the US laboratory-developed test market. The commercial opportunity remains conditional: Sonic has not committed to a licence, and validation is expected to run for 12 to 18 months.

Sonic agreement creates a US validation route
INOVIQ Limited (ASX:IIQ) has put a major US diagnostics operator into the next stage of its ovarian cancer program, signing Sonic Healthcare USA to transfer, optimise and validate its EXO-OC blood test at a CAP/CLIA-certified molecular diagnostics laboratory in Rye Brook, New York.
The agreement gives Sonic a non-exclusive option to pursue a future licence to offer EXO-OC as a Laboratory Developed Test in the United States. That is a meaningful commercial pathway for INOVIQ, but not a commercial deal yet: Sonic has made no commitment to take a licence, transfer the technology more broadly or enter a commercial partnership.
Validation follows a troubled sample history
The timing matters because INOVIQ has been rebuilding the EXO-OC development path after sample-quality problems disrupted earlier clinical work. The company’s recent optimisation and verification process is now being tied to a US laboratory capable of conducting advanced molecular diagnostics, while INOVIQ plans to collect further clinical samples with ovarian cancer specialists and hospitals across the country.
That work is intended to proceed alongside Sonic’s transfer and validation activities. INOVIQ says the parallel approach could streamline the route towards LDT commercialisation, although progress will depend in part on the availability and quality of samples. The company is targeting early calendar 2028 for completion of the optimisation and validation program.
Reported performance remains early-stage evidence
EXO-OC combines exosome isolation through INOVIQ’s EXO-NET technology with multiple exosomal microRNA biomarkers and CA125 in an artificial intelligence and machine-learning algorithm. INOVIQ says an updated algorithm produced 92.3% sensitivity for stage I and II disease and 92.5% sensitivity across all stages, at 98% specificity, in a 498-sample retrospective case-control study.
Those figures are encouraging on their face, but they are not yet independent confirmation of clinical performance. The data come from a retrospective case-control setting, and the company expressly states that Sonic Healthcare USA has not independently validated the results or endorsed the test’s performance.
The option is the commercial catalyst
Sonic Healthcare USA provides pathology services to 20 million physicians and patients across the US, giving the validation exercise a potentially important operational and distribution setting. Any future commercial arrangement, however, would still require successful validation, Sonic exercising its option and subsequent negotiations on terms that have not been disclosed.
For INOVIQ, the next value-bearing milestones are therefore practical rather than promotional: completion of the technology transfer, progress in US sample collection, the validation outcome and a decision on whether Sonic proceeds with its option. The early 2028 target is a company estimate, not a guaranteed launch date, and the filing leaves both the economics and the ultimate commercial partner unresolved.
Bottom Line?
Sonic gives EXO-OC a credible US laboratory pathway, but the decisive test is still ahead: independent validation and an option exercise will determine whether the pathway becomes a business.
Questions in the middle?
- Will Sonic Healthcare USA exercise its option after completing validation?
- Can INOVIQ generate sufficiently consistent results from newly collected US clinical samples?
- What pricing, reimbursement and commercial terms could support an eventual US LDT launch?
