Insulet Corporation (NASDAQ:PODD) has paired near-20% quarterly revenue growth with a fresh US$1 billion capital-return programme, giving investors two reasons to focus on the strength and durability of its Omnipod franchise. Revenue reached US$842.0 million in the three months to September 30, 2026, slightly above the top of the company’s constant-currency guidance range, while GAAP net income climbed to US$141.1 million from US$87.6 million.
Omnipod drives revenue and earnings acceleration
Total Omnipod revenue rose 19.7% to US$836.6 million, or 20.0% in constant currency. International sales were the standout, increasing 31.7% reported and 33.0% on a constant-currency basis to US$266.2 million. US Omnipod revenue grew 14.7% to US$570.4 million, leaving the international business as the faster-growing part of the platform.
Profit growth outpaced sales. GAAP operating income increased to US$189.8 million, equivalent to a 22.5% margin compared with 16.7% a year earlier. Adjusted operating income was US$185.2 million, or 22.0% of revenue, excluding items including costs associated with voluntary medical-device corrections. Adjusted diluted EPS rose 59.9% to US$1.99, while GAAP diluted EPS reached US$2.03.
Margin guidance raised as buyback adds a capital-allocation signal
Insulet lifted its full-year 2026 adjusted operating-margin expansion outlook to about 150 basis points year on year, up from its previous expectation of roughly 100 basis points. It maintained guidance for adjusted EPS growth above 30% and kept total revenue growth guidance at 21% to 22% in constant currency, including 21.5% to 22.5% growth for Omnipod.
The board has separately authorised repurchases of up to US$1 billion through December 31, 2028. Insulet expects to direct approximately US$400 million to buybacks in the fourth quarter using existing cash, although the programme is discretionary and can be changed, suspended or discontinued. Cash and equivalents stood at US$584.4 million at September 30, down from US$716.1 million at the end of 2025, while nine-month free cash flow was US$211.7 million, below US$329.5 million a year earlier as capital expenditure increased.
Product expansion and clinical milestones build the next leg
During the quarter, Insulet completed the US rollout of Omnipod Discover, which it said had reached more than 35,000 users and 5,000 healthcare professionals across available markets as of November 2. The company also extended an Omnipod 5 algorithm enhancement across US retail channels and expanded integration with Abbott’s FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus continuous glucose monitor in nine additional markets, including Australia.
Two pipeline studies also reached enrolment milestones: the STRIVE2 type 1 diabetes cohort supporting Omnipod 6 and the EVOLVE pivotal study for fully closed-loop automated insulin delivery in adults with type 2 diabetes. Those developments sit alongside evidence presented at the European Association for the Study of Diabetes meeting, but they remain development and adoption milestones rather than completed commercial outcomes. The immediate test for Insulet is whether its faster international growth and margin gains can continue while it scales manufacturing, manages medical-device correction costs and funds shareholder returns.
Bottom Line?
The quarter strengthens Insulet’s growth case, but the next evidence point is whether higher margins and international momentum can support a large buyback without constraining investment in the Omnipod pipeline.
Questions in the middle?
- How much of the planned US$400 million fourth-quarter repurchase will actually be completed, and at what average share price?
- Can international Omnipod growth remain above 30% as the company expands its ecosystem across more markets?
- Will Omnipod Discover, Omnipod 6 and fully closed-loop type 2 diabetes products translate into sustained customer retention and commercial growth?
