Right Resources maps 3km tungsten corridor at Moonlight

Right Resources has identified a 3-kilometre interpreted shear zone hosting surface tungsten mineralisation at its Moonlight Prospect in New South Wales. Initial rock-chip assays reached 0.61% WO3, but drilling is still needed to establish continuity, scale and economic significance.

  • 3km-long, up to 500m-wide interpreted tungsten-bearing shear zone
  • Peak rock-chip result of 0.61% WO3
  • Multiple scheelite-bearing lodes mapped, including one traced over 350m
  • Local gold anomalism reached 0.25g/t Au
  • Follow-up drilling remains subject to approvals

Moonlight emerges as a priority tungsten target

Right Resources Limited (ASX:RRE) has turned the Moonlight Prospect into a priority drilling target after mapping and initial assays outlined a tungsten-bearing structural corridor extending for more than 3 kilometres and reaching approximately 500 metres in width.

The prospect forms part of Right Resources' Blue Project near Tumbarumba, New South Wales. Radiometric and magnetic interpretation has identified a weakly magnetic, northwest-trending shear zone, while surface work has located tungsten-bearing quartz lodes, veins and pegmatites within and around the interpreted structure.

The results add another active exploration thread to Blue, where the company has already begun its maiden Blue drilling campaign, according to recent company coverage. Moonlight itself has not yet been drilled.

Right Resources collected 27 surface rock-chip samples across EL9889, with 11 samples from the interpreted shear zone returning between 21.6 parts per million tungsten and 4,860ppm, equivalent to 0.003% to 0.61% WO3.

The strongest results were 0.61% WO3, 0.48% WO3 and 0.22% WO3. A separate sample returned local gold anomalism of 0.25 grams per tonne, although the company's stated exploration focus at Moonlight remains tungsten rather than gold.

Mapping has also identified several scheelite-bearing lodes between 0.5 metres and 2 metres wide. One east-west trending quartz lode has been traced over approximately 350 metres, while other north to north-northeast structures show visible scheelite in vein and disseminated forms. Assays from these newly identified areas are pending.

Surface evidence still falls short of a deposit

The headline grades come from selective surface samples, not drill intersections. The company cautions that rock chips may not represent average grade, continuity or economic viability, and says the identified prospective zone should not be treated as a continuous mineralised body.

There is also a technical qualification to the tungsten numbers: the four-acid digestion method used for the assays may not fully dissolve scheelite, meaning reported tungsten values are considered minimum values. No field duplicates or external laboratory checks were undertaken for this batch, although certified reference materials were reported within acceptable limits.

Mapping and approvals set the next test

Completion of the Right to Negotiate process for EL9889 has allowed the company to accelerate mapping, rock-chip and soil sampling across Moonlight. The next phase will combine geological, geochemical and geophysical data to rank targets and guide follow-up drilling, alongside the EL9889 drilling plans previously identified as subject to approvals.

The immediate catalysts are the pending assays from scheelite-bearing lodes and pegmatites, followed by a clearer target ranking and any approvals required for drilling. Until holes test the structures at depth, the key question is whether Moonlight's impressive surface indications represent a coherent mineralised system or a collection of locally enriched outcrops.

Bottom Line?

Pending assays may sharpen the target, but only approved drilling can establish whether the surface tungsten extends with meaningful continuity and scale.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will assays from the newly mapped scheelite-bearing lodes confirm the strongest visual observations?
  • Can drilling establish continuity and true widths beneath the 3-kilometre interpreted shear zone?
  • When will the company secure the approvals needed to test Moonlight below surface?
