Avenira has raised $48.87 million through its rights issue and shortfall placement, with major shareholder Hebang among those taking up entitlements. Combined with $85 million of debt facilities, the company expects the funding to cover the direct shipping ore phase at Wonarah ahead of planned first shipment in the first half of 2027.
- $48.87 million raised before costs
- 8.15 billion new shares to be issued
- Hebang and other major shareholders took up entitlements
- $85 million in debt facilities alongside equity funding
- Pre-strip targeted for the fourth quarter of 2026
$48.9 Million Raise Clears Wonarah Funding Hurdle
Avenira Limited (ASX:AEV) has completed a $48.87 million capital raising, giving the company equity funding to push its 100%-owned Wonarah Phosphate Project towards production in the Northern Territory. The raise attracted enough demand to cover $35.93 million of shareholder entitlements and a further $12.94 million through the placement of shortfall.
The result brings the number of new shares to 8.15 billion, a substantial expansion of Avenira’s issued capital. The shares are due to be issued on 6 November, meaning the funding milestone comes with a clear dilution consequence for existing holders who did not participate.
Hebang Funding Supports Owner-Operator Plan
Major shareholder Hebang Biotechnology (Hong Kong) Investment Limited and other major shareholders took up their entitlements. That participation follows the earlier rights issue funding push, which had attracted more than $44 million in applications before its close.
Avenira said the equity raising forms one half of its funding strategy. The other half comprises a $50 million term facility and a $35 million working capital revolving facility, both described as debt financing facilities. Together, the $48.87 million equity proceeds and $85 million of debt are expected to fully fund Wonarah’s direct shipping ore phase under the company’s owner-operator model.
That model means Avenira is establishing the workforce, equipment, operating systems, product handling and transport arrangements itself. The company has not provided final project costs, production volumes or debt drawdown conditions in this announcement, so the statement that the DSO phase is fully funded remains an expectation rather than a guarantee.
Pre-Strip Work Targeted Before First Ore Shipment
Deputy chairman Brett Clark said pre-strip work would start in the fourth quarter of 2026, with first ore on ship targeted for the first half of 2027. That timetable is consistent with the company’s earlier Wonarah shipment timetable, which also outlined planned pre-strip work and access to up to $85 million in Hebang debt facilities.
The next evidence of progress will be operational rather than financial: commencement of pre-strip activities, establishment of mine infrastructure and confirmation that the debt facilities can be drawn as planned. Avenira may also place any remaining shortfall, leaving the final capital structure and the pace of dilution still to be settled.
Bottom Line?
The funding target is now largely met, but Wonarah’s investment case shifts from raising capital to converting that capital into pre-strip work and a first shipment in 2027.
Questions in the middle?
- How much, if any, additional shortfall will Avenira place, and what will the final share count be?
- When will the $85 million of debt facilities be drawn and under what conditions?
- Can pre-strip work begin on schedule and lead to first ore on ship in the first half of 2027?
