Wynn Resorts earnings slide as Las Vegas gaming weakness compounds Macau and Boston pressure

Wynn Resorts’ third-quarter profit fell sharply as revenue declined across Las Vegas, Macau and Boston. A US$0.25 dividend and ongoing buybacks provide shareholder returns, but the group is carrying substantial debt while funding its UAE expansion.

  • Revenue down 7.9% to US$1.69 billion
  • Net income drops to US$17.3 million from US$88.3 million
  • Las Vegas Adjusted Property EBITDAR falls 21.9%
  • US$0.25 per-share dividend declared
  • US$1.12 billion contributed to Wynn Al Marjan Island to date

Wynn Resorts, Limited (NASDAQ:WYNN) saw quarterly net income attributable to shareholders collapse to US$17.3 million, from US$88.3 million a year earlier, as weaker casino performance hit every operating region. Revenue fell 7.9% to US$1.69 billion, while diluted earnings per share dropped to US$0.17 from US$0.85.

Las Vegas casino hold drives the sharpest earnings decline

Las Vegas was the largest single drag on operating performance. Revenue fell 7.4% to US$575.2 million and Adjusted Property EBITDAR, a non-GAAP measure, declined 21.9% to US$158.8 million. Table-games win fell 25.3% to US$112.1 million, with the 18.9% win rate below the property’s expected 22% to 26% range and the 23.0% recorded in the prior-year quarter.

Management attributed part of the Las Vegas pressure to a hold rate outside its expected range. That distinction matters: room performance remained comparatively resilient, with occupancy at 85.5% and average daily rate rising to US$522, but stronger accommodation pricing did not offset the weaker gaming result.

Macau revenue falls despite mixed gaming indicators

Wynn Palace revenue declined 8.1% to US$583.8 million and Adjusted Property EBITDAR fell 17.2% to US$165.8 million. Wynn Macau revenue dropped 8.2% to US$335.4 million, while its Adjusted Property EBITDAR declined 17.1% to US$89.5 million. At Wynn Palace, mass-market table-games win improved as a percentage of table drop, but VIP turnover fell 14.3%. At Wynn Macau, VIP turnover plunged 53.9%, even as the VIP win rate rose above the property’s stated expected range.

Boston strike adds pressure as property earnings weaken

Encore Boston Harbor reported an 8.1% revenue decline to US$194.7 million and a 14.1% fall in Adjusted Property EBITDAR to US$50.1 million. The company said its team managed through a strike that began in early September. Table-games win fell 9.7%, while occupancy declined to 91.9% from 95.5% a year earlier.

Dividend and buybacks continue alongside heavy investment

The board declared a US$0.25-per-share cash dividend, payable on November 30 to eligible shareholders. Wynn also repurchased 627,475 shares for US$58.1 million during the quarter, leaving US$268.0 million of authority under its buyback programme.

Those distributions sit alongside a sizeable capital commitment to Wynn Al Marjan Island in the United Arab Emirates. Wynn contributed US$62.2 million to the 40%-owned joint venture during the quarter, taking cumulative cash contributions to US$1.12 billion, with the resort still planned to open in September 2027. The balance sheet carried US$1.64 billion of cash and US$10.73 billion of debt at September 30, while the company refinanced US$900.0 million of notes due in 2027 with 6.875% senior notes due in 2035.

Adjusted Property EBITDAR fell 18.6% to US$464.2 million, but the more consequential question is whether the quarter reflects temporary gaming volatility or a softer earnings base. The next results will need to show whether Las Vegas table-game performance normalises, Macau VIP activity stabilises and Boston recovers from the strike, while Wynn continues funding a major new resort without reducing shareholder distributions.

Bottom Line?

The dividend and buybacks remain visible shareholder returns, but the next quarter will test whether weaker gaming results were temporary while debt and UAE construction commitments continue to absorb capital.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will Wynn Las Vegas’ table-games hold rate return to its expected range in the next quarter?
  • Can Macau VIP turnover stabilise without undermining the group’s earnings recovery?
  • How will Wynn balance the September 2027 UAE opening programme with US$10.73 billion of debt and ongoing distributions?
