Snow Queen Drilling Confirms High-Grade Copper Potential

Austral Resources Australia Ltd (ASX:AR1) has delivered a striking start to its 2026 exploration campaign with a high-grade copper intersection at the Snow Queen Prospect, located 60km west of its Rocklands Processing Facility in Queensland. Drillhole 26SQRC001 returned an impressive 10m at 7.52% copper from 35m downhole, including a 4m interval grading 15.98% copper. This confirms the presence of robust mineralisation associated with a breccia system at the contact between the Hardway Granite and Corella Formation, a key geological setting within the Mount Isa–Cloncurry district.

The Snow Queen result not only validates Austral’s targeting model but also highlights the prospectivity of a broader mineralised corridor within the Cameron River Project. The copper anomaly remains open to the west-north-west, indicating potential for further extensions. This prospect is one of 35 historical copper workings that Austral aims to drill test over the next 12 to 18 months as part of its organic growth strategy, focusing on satellite deposits that can leverage existing infrastructure.

Strategic Focus on Satellite Deposits Near Rocklands Facility

Austral’s Chief Operating Officer Shane O’Connell emphasised the company’s producer mindset, stating that exploration success is aligned with practical development pathways to integrate new discoveries efficiently into existing operations. The proximity of Snow Queen to the Rocklands Processing Facility, just 60km away and accessible via the sealed Barkly Highway, fits squarely within this hub-and-spoke growth strategy. The company is systematically advancing a pipeline of satellite copper opportunities, aiming to sustain and complement its current production base.

The drilling at Snow Queen was designed to test the southern extent of a strong copper-in-soil anomaly exceeding 500 ppm copper and extending over approximately 400m of strike. The mineralisation intercepted is hosted within a strongly altered albite–actinolite–chlorite–pyrite breccia, with sulphides including chalcocite, chalcopyrite, and minor bornite. While the downhole width is reported at 10m, true widths are yet to be determined. Gold and multi-element assay results for this hole are expected imminently, with follow-up drilling results anticipated within the next month.

Broader Exploration Program to Sustain Growth Pipeline

This initial success at Snow Queen builds on Austral’s recent efforts to expand its copper inventory and regional footprint, following the transformative acquisition of the Rocklands facility in 2025 and a turnaround to profitability in 2025, as noted in its profit turnaround to $11.9 million. Austral plans to recommence regional drilling at selected priority targets in the third quarter of 2026, targeting extensions to known mineralisation and untested geochemical and structural anomalies across its extensive 2,101km2 exploration tenure.

Near-mine exploration continues alongside regional programs, focusing on identifying additional copper sources within haulage distance of Rocklands. This dual approach aims to extend the life of mine and increase the resource base, supporting Austral’s strategy to commercialise its copper resources efficiently. The company’s recent launch of drilling at Rocklands to boost resource confidence complements this exploration push, reinforcing its commitment to build scale in the Mt Isa region.

Assay Results and Next Catalysts

While the high-grade copper intercept is encouraging, the full picture awaits pending assay results, including gold and multi-element analyses for 26SQRC001, expected within days. Follow-up drillhole 26SQRC002 assays are due within 2–4 weeks. These results will be critical to assessing the economic potential of Snow Queen and its fit within Austral’s broader resource portfolio, which currently includes a JORC-compliant Mineral Resource Estimate of 64 Mt at 0.73% copper across the Lady Annie and Rocklands projects.

Austral’s systematic approach to exploration, combining soil geochemistry, surface sampling, and targeted drilling, reflects a disciplined effort to convert historical workings into mineable inventory. The company’s ability to integrate new discoveries near existing infrastructure could be a key value driver as it advances its regional growth pipeline.
