Falcon Metals Secures Drilling Approvals for Olsen Well Gold Target

Falcon Metals has cleared regulatory and heritage hurdles to launch its maiden drilling at the Olsen Well gold target, expanding its footprint along the Errabiddy Shear Zone with promising rock chip results underpinning exploration.

  • Regulatory and heritage approvals obtained for maiden drilling
  • Rock chip assays up to 6.42 g/t gold confirm bedrock mineralisation
  • Project strike extended beyond 60 kilometres with new tenement
  • WA Government awards $180,000 Exploration Incentive Scheme funding
  • Reverse circulation drilling planned to start in September 2026

Maiden Drilling Set to Test Significant Gold Anomaly

Falcon Metals (ASX:FAL) is gearing up to drill the Olsen Well gold target within its Errabiddy Gold Project in Western Australia after securing all necessary regulatory and heritage clearances. This will mark the first-ever drill test of Olsen Well, where Falcon can earn a 70% stake from West Coast Silver (ASX:WCE). The company plans a roughly 3,500-metre reverse circulation (RC) drilling program scheduled for September, pending rig availability.

Rock Chip Sampling Confirms Compelling Mineralisation

Recent rock chip sampling at Olsen Well has delivered encouraging results, with assays reaching up to 6.42 grams per tonne (g/t) gold within a broader 5.8-kilometre-long soil anomaly exceeding 10 parts per billion (ppb) gold. Four rock chip samples along a ~30-metre-wide zone returned more than 1 g/t gold, underpinning the presence of bedrock mineralisation associated with highly deformed gneiss. This geological setting is analogous to Benz Mining’s nearby Glenburgh Gold Project, which boasts a substantial exploration target of 10.1 to 12.0 million ounces of gold.

Project Expansion Extends Prospective Strike Length

Falcon has expanded its footprint with the grant of a 100% owned tenement, E09/2984, extending the Errabiddy Gold Project’s strike length to over 60 kilometres along the highly prospective Errabiddy Shear Zone. This zone marks the northern margin of the Yilgarn Craton, a region historically underexplored yet known for hosting large-scale craton-margin gold deposits such as Tropicana and Karlawinda.

Government Funding Validates Exploration Potential

Adding to the project’s momentum, Falcon secured up to $180,000 in co-funding from the Western Australian Government’s Exploration Incentive Scheme (EIS). This competitive, merit-based funding recognises the technical merit and discovery potential of the Olsen Well target, reducing the financial burden of the upcoming drill program.

Strategic Positioning Amid Multiple Projects

Managing Director Tim Markwell highlighted the strategic significance of advancing two large-scale gold projects concurrently, with drilling underway at the Blue Moon project in Victoria and imminent at Errabiddy. The proximity of Olsen Well to Benz Mining’s Glenburgh Project, just 35 kilometres away, lends further confidence to the prospectivity of the region. Falcon’s ongoing surface geochemical programs have refined drill targets, with structural mapping revealing complex folding and shearing consistent with known gold mineralisation controls.

Bottom Line?

The coming months will be pivotal as Falcon Metals moves from surface sampling to drilling, with assay results likely to shape the next phase of exploration in this underexplored but promising craton-margin setting.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will the maiden drilling at Olsen Well confirm continuity and scale of gold mineralisation?
  • How might results from Errabiddy influence Falcon’s exploration strategy alongside Blue Moon?
  • Could further tenement acquisitions extend the Errabiddy Shear Zone’s prospective corridor?
