Magnum Advances Piracanjuba REE Drilling and Confirms High-Grade US Gold Assays

Mining By Maxwell Dee 4 min read

Magnum Mining is progressing a major rare earth drilling campaign in Brazil with all 122 holes showing anomalous results, while US assets deliver standout gold assays up to 178g/t.

  • 10,000m drilling underway at Piracanjuba IAC REE discovery
  • Geophysical target expanded from 85km² to 116km²
  • All 122 auger holes return anomalous total rare earth oxides
  • High-grade gold assays up to 178g/t confirmed at Parker project
  • Corporate appointments strengthen Brazilian and US operations

Major Drilling Uncovers Extensive Rare Earth System in Brazil

Magnum Mining and Exploration Limited (ASX:MGU) is rapidly advancing its Brazilian rare earth element (REE) portfolio, spearheaded by a 10,000-metre auger drilling program at the Piracanjuba ionic adsorption clay (IAC) discovery. To date, every one of the 122 holes drilled has returned anomalous total rare earth oxide (TREO) values, underpinning the potential for a large, laterally extensive mineralised system. This drilling success has prompted the company to expand the interpreted geophysical target footprint at Piracanjuba North from 85 square kilometres to 116 square kilometres, signalling a significant increase in prospective ground.

Exceptional desorption results continue to highlight the prospectivity of the system, with strong recoveries of magnet and heavy rare earth elements that are strategically important for technology markets. These shallow, near-surface mineralisations show promising leachability under mild conditions, which could translate to more cost-effective extraction methods.

Tenure Consolidation and Exploration Target on the Horizon

Magnum has consolidated its tenure around the Piracanjuba discovery, securing multiple new exploration permits from the Brazilian National Mining Agency to strengthen its landholding. The company expects to deliver an initial Exploration Target by August 2026, ahead of a JORC Mineral Resource Estimate by November, contingent on ongoing exploration results. The Piracanjuba project benefits from proximity to established infrastructure, including roads, power, and workforce, which supports potential future development.

High-Grade Gold Confirmed at Parker Project in the US

Across the Americas, Magnum’s US assets are also gaining momentum. The Parker Gold-Copper Project in Arizona has yielded exceptional final overlimit assays, with rock-chip samples confirming gold grades up to 178 grams per tonne (g/t). This high-grade surface mineralisation, combined with integrated geophysical interpretations, has generated multiple ranked drill-testable structural targets, moving the project closer to initial drilling.

Meanwhile, at the Wet Mountain REE Project in Colorado, priority drill targets have been defined following integrated magnetic and radiometric data analysis. These targets align with historical high-grade surface samples and support plans for a first-pass diamond drilling program, pending permitting and field validation.

Strategic Leadership Appointments Bolster Growth

Magnum has strengthened its leadership team to support its aggressive exploration agenda. Antonio Vitor Junior, a seasoned Brazilian mining executive with direct experience in rare earth discovery and project leadership, was appointed Managing Director in April 2026. His expertise spans grassroots exploration to development planning, with a strong operational track record in Goiás State.

Additionally, Leonardo Fraga joined as Exploration Manager, bringing extensive technical experience in critical minerals systems across Brazil. Post-quarter, the company secured rare earths veteran Jack Lifton as REE Business Development Manager, whose decades-long career includes advising US government agencies and leading rare metals consultancy. Lifton’s appointment underscores Magnum’s commitment to navigating the complex rare earths market and advancing its Brazilian assets.

Financial Position and Market Accessibility

Magnum ended the quarter with a cash balance of AUD 3.7 million, down from AUD 4.9 million, reflecting ongoing exploration and corporate activities. Operating cash outflows increased slightly to AUD 1.2 million, driven by intensified drilling programs and leadership appointments. The company completed OTC listing submissions to enhance accessibility for US investors, aligning with its strategic focus on projects across the Americas.

Bottom Line?

Magnum’s expanding footprint and consistent assay results in Brazil, coupled with high-grade US gold findings, position it well for upcoming resource milestones and drilling catalysts.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will the upcoming Exploration Target at Piracanjuba translate into a significant JORC Mineral Resource?
  • How will the integration of Jack Lifton’s expertise influence Magnum’s rare earths market strategy?
  • What is the timeline for advancing the Parker and Wet Mountain projects to drilling and resource definition?
