Brightstar Advances Goldfields Construction on Track for June 2027 First Gold

Mining By Maxwell Dee 3 min read

Brightstar Resources reports steady July progress at its Goldfields Project, maintaining schedule and budget for first gold production in mid-2027 with key infrastructure milestones reached.

  • Laverton processing plant bulk earthworks complete
  • Structural steel and concrete foundations progressing
  • Power Purchase and LNG Supply Agreements executed
  • Borefield drilling underway with initial production bores cased
  • Gold production target of ~75koz p.a. over six years

Goldfields Project Construction Hits Key Milestones

Brightstar Resources Limited (ASX:BTR) has confirmed that construction at its 100%-owned Goldfields Project in Western Australia continues to advance strongly, with the project firmly on track for first gold production in June 2027. July saw completion of bulk earthworks for the 1.5Mtpa Laverton processing plant infrastructure, a critical step that sets the stage for upcoming concrete pours and structural steel installation.

Concrete foundations for major processing equipment including the primary crusher, SAG mill, CIL tanks, and thickener well have progressed well, while structural steel and platework have commenced in the primary crushing area. These developments underscore the project's steady momentum within the approved budget framework.

Power and Water Infrastructure Agreements Finalised

Brightstar executed a Power Purchase Agreement alongside an LNG Supply Agreement, securing the energy backbone for the Goldfields operation. Engineering works for the power station and LNG infrastructure are underway with major long-lead equipment already secured, mitigating potential supply chain risks that often challenge mining projects.

On the water front, borefield development has begun, with the first two production bores drilled and cased, supporting the project's water requirements. The company plans to continue installation of borefield pipework and pumping systems in August, alongside completing remaining bulk earthworks for non-process infrastructure.

Mining and Production Outlook

Mining activities at the high-grade Second Fortune deposit are progressing towards a planned conclusion in August, with stockpiles growing in anticipation of processing. Preparations at the Lord Byron open-pit are advancing, targeting mobilisation in December 2026, which will feed into the processing plant ramp-up.

Brightstar projects an initial six-year mine life producing approximately 75,000 ounces of gold annually from FY28. Parallel efforts are focused on exploring mine life extension opportunities and evaluating a 2.5Mtpa throughput upside scenario, which could enhance production scale and longevity.

Strategic Positioning and Next Steps

Brightstar continues to execute a dual-track strategy, developing the Goldfields Project while aggressively advancing exploration and prefeasibility studies at its Sandstone Project. The company aims to establish itself as a substantial mid-tier gold producer in Western Australia, leveraging a portfolio with over 4 million ounces of Mineral Resources across Tier-1 jurisdictions.

Looking ahead, August’s focus will be on completing major concrete pours, mobilising the CIL tank installation team, and advancing structural steel fabrication. These activities will be pivotal in maintaining the tight schedule towards production commencement.

Bottom Line?

Brightstar’s steady progress through July cements its June 2027 production target, but execution of upcoming concrete and steel phases will be critical to sustaining momentum.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will Brightstar’s power and LNG agreements translate into competitive operating costs?
  • How might mine life extension and throughput expansion scenarios reshape project economics?
  • What impact will the Sandstone Project’s exploration success have on Brightstar’s growth trajectory?
