Breakthrough Minerals Confirms High-Grade Copper-Gold Extensions at Turpentine and Barbara
Breakthrough Minerals (ASX:BTM) has delivered robust assay results from its 2026 drilling campaign, confirming high-grade copper-gold mineralisation extending beyond current resources at its North Queensland projects.
- First assays validate down-plunge extension at Turpentine with up to 4m @ 2.83% CuEq
- Barbara drilling confirms mineralisation continuity at depth and along strike
- North Queensland Copper-Gold Project resource stands at 18.8Mt @ 1.07% CuEq (200,000t CuEq)
- Six additional Turpentine holes completed, assays pending
- Further drilling and geophysical surveys planned to expand resource base
Turpentine Drilling Validates Northern Down-Plunge Target
Breakthrough Minerals has hit promising copper-gold grades in the first assays from its 2026 resource expansion drilling at the Turpentine Deposit, part of the Hazel Creek Copper-Gold Project within the North Queensland Copper-Gold Project (NQCGP). The initial three holes tested a northern down-plunge extension predicted by gravity inversion modelling, directly confirming the interpreted target with intervals including 6 metres at 2.18% copper equivalent (CuEq) and 4 metres at 2.83% CuEq.
These results notably outperform the existing Mineral Resource block model, which currently estimates 8.7 million tonnes at 1.16% CuEq for 101,000 tonnes of contained copper equivalent. The first hole, 26TUR001, intercepted 31 metres at 0.52% CuEq, including 7 metres at 1.02% CuEq within the resource envelope. Holes 26TUR002 and 26TUR003, drilled at the edge of the resource, returned stronger grades, underscoring the potential for resource growth beyond current boundaries.
Barbara Project Extends Mineralisation Footprint
At the Barbara Copper-Gold Project, Breakthrough's maiden diamond drilling program has reinforced the continuity of mineralisation both at depth and along strike. The latest assays include a 10-metre intercept at 0.56% CuEq from 550 metres, within a broader 73-metre mineralised zone extending beyond 575 metres depth, confirming the deposit remains open at depth.
Additional drillholes, such as 26BAR004 and 26BAR006, returned mineralised intervals of 7 metres at 0.54% CuEq and 7 metres at 1.08% CuEq respectively, supporting the view of a robust mineralised system. The program also identified extensions north of the existing resource footprint along the Barbara Shear Zone, with 26BAR008 intersecting 13 metres at 0.26% CuEq near surface.
Resource Base and Ongoing Exploration
The combined North Queensland Copper-Gold Project hosts a global Mineral Resource Estimate of 18.8 million tonnes at 1.07% CuEq, containing approximately 200,000 tonnes of copper equivalent, all of which remains uncommitted. Breakthrough Minerals is actively pursuing growth, with six additional holes drilled at Turpentine awaiting assay results and a planned ~2,500-metre reverse circulation drilling campaign targeting priority prospects within Hazel Creek, including Turpentine South and Eight Mile Creek.
At Barbara, the company plans to resume drilling to test further northern extensions of the Barbara Shear Zone and nearby mineralised targets. Selected holes from the completed program will undergo downhole electromagnetic surveys to pinpoint additional conductor targets, enhancing exploration targeting.
Managing Director Nigel Broomham highlighted the significance of the results, stating that the drilling directly validated the geophysical targets and reinforced the potential to expand the resource base. With ongoing assays and drilling, Breakthrough Minerals aims to build on its existing 200,000-tonne CuEq resource inventory in this prolific Queensland copper-gold belt.
Bottom Line?
Breakthrough Minerals’ latest assays confirm tangible extensions at key deposits, setting the stage for further resource growth as additional results and drilling progress.
Questions in the middle?
- How will upcoming assay results from six additional Turpentine holes influence the resource model?
- What impact will downhole electromagnetic surveys have on identifying new targets at Barbara?
- Can Breakthrough Minerals sustain its resource growth momentum across the broader Hazel Creek project?
