Exceptional Near-Surface High-Grade Gold Intersected
Kalamazoo Resources (ASX:KZR) has delivered a striking new chapter in its Ashburton Gold Project story with a 20-metre intercept grading 19 grams per tonne (g/t) gold from just two metres below surface at its flagship Mt Olympus deposit. This standout result, part of a recently completed 72-hole, 13,726-metre Resource Definition Drilling Program, highlights the presence of high-grade feeder structures extending into upper stratigraphic units, a key insight that advances the geological understanding of the deposit.
The drilling campaign has also returned a 69-metre intersection averaging 3.0g/t gold from 149 metres depth, including sub-intervals of 26 metres at 5.2g/t and 7 metres at 10g/t, alongside other broad mineralised zones starting at surface. These findings confirm both vertical and strike continuity of high-grade mineralisation, reinforcing confidence in the geological model and the potential for resource expansion.
Extending Mineralisation Beyond Existing Boundaries
Notably, several drill holes have intersected gold mineralisation outside the current Mineral Resource envelope but still within the conceptual pit shell defined by the company’s Scoping Study. This suggests opportunities to enhance the future mining inventory at Mt Olympus. The Resource Definition Drilling Program has reduced drill spacing to approximately 20 metres by 20 metres across key areas, increasing geological confidence and supporting the ongoing upgrade of resource categories from Inferred to Indicated.
Executive Director Dr Ben Ackerman emphasised the significance of these results, stating they provide further evidence of the scale and internal grade distribution of the mineralised system. He highlighted the importance of recognising vertical and strike continuity in high-grade feeder structures, which underpin the deposit’s growth potential. The improved geological model is expected to feed into an updated Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE) targeted for release in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Advancing Towards Development Milestones
Chief Executive Officer Andrew McDougall described the combination of exceptional near-surface grades and broad mineralised intervals as a strengthening factor for Mt Olympus as the foundation asset for potentially long-life gold operations in the Ashburton region. The upcoming MRE update and the Pre-Feasibility Study (PFS), scheduled for the first quarter of 2027, will incorporate these drilling results and improved geological insights to optimise mine planning and project economics.
Meanwhile, Kalamazoo has commenced Underground Growth drilling beneath Mt Olympus to explore extensions below and down-plunge of the current pit shell, alongside additional drilling at the nearby high-grade Peake deposit. These programs aim to test the down-dip and down-plunge extensions of known mineralisation and satellite orebodies, potentially expanding the project’s resource base further.
Ashburton Project’s Expanding Footprint
The Ashburton Gold Project, located 35 kilometres south-east of Paraburdoo in Western Australia, now covers 519 square kilometres of prospective tenure wholly controlled by Kalamazoo following recent tenement applications. The project hosts multiple deposits including Mt Olympus, Peake, Zeus, and Waugh, with a combined Mineral Resource Estimate of approximately 1.44 million ounces of gold at various grades.
The Resource Definition Drilling Program’s results, including numerous intercepts exceeding 50 gram-metres, continue to validate the continuity and robustness of the mineralised system. Earlier high-grade intersections such as 74 metres at 4.1g/t and 36 metres at 16g/t gold have been complemented by these latest assays, further supporting resource growth potential.
Technical Rigor and Future Work
The drilling utilized industry-standard Reverse Circulation and diamond core methods with rigorous quality control protocols including certified reference standards, blanks, and duplicate samples. Collar positions were surveyed with high precision, and assay results have been carefully integrated into the geological model.
With 62 of 72 drillhole assays returned, Kalamazoo anticipates releasing the remaining results progressively. The company’s focus remains on refining the resource model, advancing the PFS, and targeting resource growth through ongoing underground and satellite deposit drilling.
