Gorilla Gold Extends Sovereign Footwall Discovery Beyond 1km Strike
Gorilla Gold Mines has significantly expanded a high-grade footwall gold discovery at its Sovereign deposit in WA, extending the strike length to over 1 kilometre and revealing multiple exceptional intercepts outside the current resource.
- High-grade footwall system at Sovereign extended to 1km strike
- Notable intercepts include 2.8m at 31.0g/t and 0.6m at 86.2g/t Au
- Discovery lies outside existing 410koz Mineral Resource Estimate
- Ongoing drilling across North Kalgoorlie Hub and Vivien Project
- Mineral resource estimates for Comet Vale, Mulwarrie, Vivien unchanged
Sovereign Footwall Discovery Surpasses 1km Strike
Gorilla Gold Mines Ltd (ASX:GG8) has unveiled a substantial expansion of a high-grade footwall gold system at its flagship Sovereign deposit within the Comet Vale Gold Project, Western Australia. Recent drilling has extended this newly identified footwall lode to more than 1 kilometre of strike, well beyond the boundaries of the existing 410,000-ounce Mineral Resource Estimate.
The latest assay highlights include a standout 2.8-metre intercept grading 31.0 grams per tonne (g/t) gold at 379.1 metres depth, located 600 metres north and 50 metres up-dip from a previous discovery hole. Additionally, a previously unreported historic hole returned 0.6 metres at an extraordinary 86.2 g/t Au, further cementing the significance of this footwall system. Another recent result of 7.0 metres at 10.2 g/t Au from a reinterpreted drill hole extends the mineralisation 1,000 metres along strike to the north.
Geological Reinterpretation Unlocks New Growth Potential
This footwall lode coincides with a major stratigraphic boundary between mafic and ultramafic lithologies, traceable over multiple kilometres. Updated geological interpretation has linked several key intercepts, including the initial May 2026 discovery of 9.3 metres at 20.6 g/t Au, into a coherent mineralised system that remains sparsely tested and lies outside current resource boundaries.
Gorilla Gold’s CEO Charles Hughes emphasised the importance of these findings: "This is emerging as a major new target for high-grade resource growth at Comet Vale. Our approach is not just about extending known deposits but improving geological understanding to identify new opportunities." The company is actively drilling multiple prospects across the North Kalgoorlie Hub and has recently recommenced drilling at the Vivien Project, positioning for continued newsflow.
North Kalgoorlie Hub’s Growing Resource Base
The North Kalgoorlie Hub, comprising the Comet Vale and Mulwarrie projects, now hosts a combined Mineral Resource of approximately 1.2 million ounces at 3.7 g/t Au. Gorilla Gold added over 1 million ounces to this base in 2025 through methodical drilling of exploration targets. The Comet Vale Project alone holds a 0.86 million ounce resource and has a history of high-grade underground production exceeding 200,000 ounces at over 20 g/t Au.
Drilling at Sovereign continues to intersect high-grade mineralisation associated with quartz veins and sulphide assemblages typical of orogenic gold systems. The mineralised zones are structurally controlled, often adjacent to lithological contacts, which aligns with the newly recognised footwall lode’s position.
Exploration and Development Activities Underway
Multiple drill rigs are operational across the North Kalgoorlie Hub and Vivien projects, targeting resource growth and definition. While assay turnaround times are currently slower due to industry-wide demand, the company expects ongoing assay results to progressively update the market. Complementary engineering, geotechnical, metallurgical, and hydrological studies continue alongside permitting efforts, underscoring the integrated approach to advancing these projects.
Gorilla Gold confirms there are no material changes to previously reported Mineral Resource Estimates for Comet Vale, Mulwarrie, and Vivien projects, maintaining a stable foundation while exploration unlocks new potential.
Bottom Line?
The expanding Sovereign footwall discovery reveals promising avenues for resource growth, but true widths and assay turnaround remain key factors to watch.
Questions in the middle?
- How will ongoing drilling refine the true width and continuity of the footwall mineralisation?
- What impact will assay lab delays have on the timing of updated resource estimates?
- Can the geological reinterpretation at Sovereign unlock further high-grade zones beyond the current 1km strike?
