Liberty Metals Finds Visible Gold at Oko North, Launches Soil Survey

Liberty Metals’ maiden fieldwork at the Oko North Project in Guyana has uncovered extensive artisanal workings and visible gold, validating its exploration strategy ahead of a large soil sampling campaign. The project sits adjacent to multi-million-ounce deposits in the prolific Oko gold district.

  • Extensive artisanal gold workings with visible gold confirmed
  • Maiden soil geochemical program of ~5,000 samples underway
  • Project covers 180km² adjacent to G Mining Ventures’ Oko deposits
  • Use of portable XRF and DetectORE™ technology for rapid target definition
  • No assay results yet; drilling campaign planned after target refinement

Visible Gold and Structural Signs Confirm Oko North Potential

Liberty Metals (ASX:LIB) has kicked off its maiden field campaign at the Oko North Project in Guyana’s Cuyuni Mining District with encouraging early signs of gold mineralisation. The company identified extensive artisanal gold workings, including coarse visible gold, quartz veining, basement shearing, and hydrothermal alteration; hallmarks of a hard-rock gold system beneath the surface.

These findings validate Liberty’s exploration approach on its recently acquired 180km² district-scale package, which sits immediately adjacent to the multi-million-ounce deposits held by G Mining Ventures (TSX: GMIN). The Oko district, boasting a combined endowment of over 9 million ounces of gold, has rapidly emerged as a world-class gold camp, underscoring the significance of Liberty’s foothold.

Systematic Soil Sampling Using Advanced Technology

Building on field observations, Liberty has launched a maiden systematic soil geochemical program comprising approximately 5,000 samples across Oko North and Oko South. The program employs portable X-ray fluorescence (pXRF) devices combined with Portable PPB’s patented DetectORE™ technology, developed by CSIRO, which enables rapid in-field detection of gold at very low concentrations.

This approach aims to accelerate target generation and prioritisation by providing near real-time data, circumventing the delays inherent in laboratory assays. DetectORE™ results are reported in proprietary units that indicate relative gold anomalism rather than conventional assay grades, guiding follow-up trenching and reconnaissance sampling.

Strategic Positioning in a Consolidating Gold District

The Oko North tenure directly abuts G Mining Ventures’ ground, which includes the Oko West and Oko-Ghanie deposits with combined measured and indicated resources of 7 million ounces and inferred resources of 2.3 million ounces. GMIN’s recent C$3 billion acquisition of G2 Goldfields consolidated these assets, highlighting the district’s growing prominence.

Liberty’s land package is interpreted to cover the southern structural continuation of this mineralised trend, with no prior systematic modern exploration or deep drilling conducted on its tenure. The presence of widespread artisanal workings and visible gold suggests proximal hard-rock sources, presenting a compelling exploration opportunity.

Next Steps Towards Drilling Campaign

Following the soil sampling program, Liberty plans to conduct trenching and reconnaissance sampling of priority anomalies to refine drill targets. The company expects laboratory assay results from initial rock chip samples within 4-6 weeks, which will inform the planning of its maiden drilling campaign.

Executive Chairman Nicholas Katris emphasised the disciplined and methodical nature of the exploration program, noting that every dollar is directed at discovery. The program is fully funded, and the company is leveraging modern exploration techniques to unlock the potential of an underexplored gold district that shares geological characteristics with prolific West African gold belts.

Bottom Line?

Liberty Metals’ early fieldwork and innovative soil sampling mark a promising start in a world-class gold district, but assay results and drilling will be critical to validate the hard-rock gold potential beneath the artisanal workings.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will assay results confirm the visible gold observations and define robust drill targets?
  • How will Liberty’s use of DetectORE™ technology impact exploration efficiency compared to traditional assays?
  • Can Liberty replicate the success of neighbouring multi-million-ounce discoveries within its tenure?
