Sky Metals Finds New High-Grade Tungsten Target Near Tallebung

Sky Metals has identified high-grade tungsten mineralisation at the Theirman Mines Prospect, 20 kilometres north of its Tallebung project in NSW. The results validate historical sampling and move the prospect towards drilling within weeks, although the evidence remains limited to surface rock chips.

High-grade tungsten emerges beside Tallebung

A surface sample grading 7.44% WO3 has put a new tungsten target on Sky Metals’ ASX:SKY exploration map, just 20 kilometres north of its advanced Tallebung Tin-Tungsten-Silver Project in New South Wales. A second recent sample returned 2.01% WO3, with both samples also carrying measurable gold.

The results come from the 100%-owned Theirman Mines Prospect, where Sky says recent sampling has confirmed a broader tungsten-tin-gold-silver-bismuth system. The company describes the target as drill-ready, but the distinction matters: these are rock-chip and grab samples from surface, not drill intersections, and they do not yet establish grade continuity, thickness at depth, a mineral resource or economic viability.

Historical workings point to a larger mineralised system

Sky’s new assays broadly replicate high-grade samples collected by YTC Resources in 2010, including results of 4.92% WO3, 4.33% WO3, 2.59% WO3, 2.11% WO3 and 2.08% WO3. Those historical samples also recorded elevated values for tin, gold, silver and bismuth, including 0.83% tin, 3.71 grams per tonne gold and 10.9 grams per tonne silver in individual samples.

Combined recent and historical data define more than 500 metres of prospective strike across at least two mineralised trends associated with the old Theirman Tin Mine and Whytes Wolfram Mine. Historical mapping described quartz-wolframite veins at Whytes over roughly 600 metres, within a corridor up to 40 metres wide, while the Theirman trend contains quartz veins over about 500 metres in a corridor around 30 metres wide. Individual veins were reported at widths of up to 2 metres and 5 metres respectively, though those historical observations are not a substitute for modern drilling.

Drilling becomes the next test

The geological model gives Sky a reason to test beneath the old workings. Theirman’s mineralisation sits in tightly folded Ordovician metasedimentary rocks of the Tallebung Group, the same regional package that hosts Tallebung. The company says the tungsten, gold, bismuth, arsenic and copper association, together with alteration and magnetic features, is consistent with an intrusion-related system that may be linked to a concealed granite at depth.

Sky expects to begin initial drilling in the coming weeks, alongside a regional reverse-circulation campaign already scheduled to expand and upgrade the Tallebung resource. Its current diamond drilling at Tallebung is nearing completion. The proximity of Theirman is operationally useful: Sky says existing personnel, contractors and logistical support can be used, potentially shortening the path from surface discovery to first drill results.

Surface grades need subsurface confirmation

The headline assays are strong, but the next set of numbers will matter more. Drilling must show whether the high-grade material persists below shallow historical workings, how wide the mineralised veins are, whether the two trends connect, and whether the broader tin-tungsten-gold-silver-bismuth system has enough continuity to support resource work. Until then, Theirman is an attractive exploration target rather than an established deposit.

Theirman has delivered striking surface grades and a low-friction drilling opportunity, but the investment case now depends on continuity, true widths and depth extensions from the first holes.
