Forrestania upgrades gold confidence at The Ladies despite smaller total resource
Forrestania Resources has lifted the higher-confidence portion of its Lady Ada and Lady Magdalene gold resource by 43%, even as total contained ounces fall 4% to 285,700 ounces. The update strengthens the development case, but most of the resource remains Inferred and the tenements are subject to ongoing legal proceedings.
- 285,700-ounce JORC resource at 1.82 g/t gold
- Measured and Indicated resources rise 43% to 100,400 ounces
- Total contained ounces decline 4% from May estimate
- Open-pit model assumes an AUD 6,000/oz gold price
- Classic Minerals legal dispute remains unresolved
Forrestania Resources Ltd (ASX:FRS) has improved the quality of its gold inventory at Lady Ada and Lady Magdalene, but not its headline size. The combined JORC resource now stands at 4.888 million tonnes grading 1.82 grams per tonne for 285,700 ounces at a 0.5 g/t cut-off, down 4% in estimated ounces from the company’s May 2026 estimate.
The more important movement is within the resource categories. Measured and Indicated material has increased 43% to 1.688 million tonnes at 1.85 g/t for 100,400 ounces, comprising 15,400 ounces Measured and 85,000 ounces Indicated. That leaves 185,300 ounces, or roughly two-thirds of the total, in the lower-confidence Inferred category.
Higher-confidence ounces concentrated at Lady Ada
Lady Ada contributes 72,500 ounces from 1.352 million tonnes at 1.67 g/t, including all of the project’s Measured resource. Lady Magdalene is larger at 213,200 ounces, but its 3.536 million tonnes at 1.87 g/t contains no Measured material and is dominated by 165,100 Inferred ounces.
The distinction matters because the company’s next technical work is aimed at converting Inferred material into Indicated resources, alongside metallurgical and geotechnical drilling to support mining studies. Forrestania says 624 holes totalling 45,715.2 metres informed the estimate, although much of the database comes from historical drilling and the report notes that documentation around some historic sampling, recovery and quality-control procedures is limited.
Open-pit case rests on AUD 6,000 gold
The resource has been constrained within optimised open-pit shells using a gold price assumption of AUD 6,000 an ounce, together with mining, processing, transport and recovery assumptions for treatment at the Lake Johnston plant, about 105 kilometres by road from the deposits. Historical test work at Lady Ada recorded gold recoveries of 99.3% in oxide, 97.3% in transitional material and 97.0% in fresh material, but those results are not a feasibility study or a production forecast.
Forrestania is positioning The Ladies as part of its broader Forrestania Hub, with Chairman David Geraghty saying the deposits could support a strategy based on multiple deposits within haulage distance of existing processing infrastructure. That remains a development proposition rather than an operating result: the estimate has been internally reviewed, not externally audited, and the company still needs further drilling and mining studies before the resource can be translated into an economic plan.
Ownership dispute adds a separate development risk
The technical update arrives with a legal qualification. Forrestania says Lady Ada and Lady Magdalene are subject to Supreme Court proceedings brought by Classic Minerals, which asserts rights connected with the sale of the Hyden Project tenements; Forrestania says it maintains its position and title. West Australian Prospectors has also lodged forfeiture applications over the tenements, which Forrestania opposes.
The next meaningful test is therefore twofold: whether drilling can convert the 185,300 Inferred ounces into a more development-ready resource, and whether the company can maintain clear control of the ground while it does so. Until both questions move forward, the 285,700-ounce figure is an inventory with promise, not yet a mine plan.
Bottom Line?
The resource is becoming more credible, but conversion drilling and resolution of the tenement dispute will determine whether that confidence has practical value.
Questions in the middle?
- How much of the 185,300 Inferred ounces can drilling convert into Indicated material?
- How sensitive is the open-pit resource to the AUD 6,000/oz gold assumption, haulage costs and recovery rates?
- What outcome will the Classic Minerals dispute and forfeiture applications have on Forrestania’s control of The Ladies?
