Encounter Extends Joyce Niobium Zone Beyond 400 Metres
Encounter Resources has extended a shallow, high-grade niobium zone at Joyce across more than 400 metres of strike, bringing a maiden resource estimate into view. The company has also identified copper anomalism in the southern part of the prospect, although that result remains early-stage.
- High-grade niobium continuity confirmed across three 200-metre-spaced drill sections
- 6m at 3.4% Nb₂O₅ within 45m at 1.2% in EAL2149
- 2m at 3.9% Nb₂O₅ within 63m at 0.7% in EAL2150
- Follow-up infill and deeper drilling planned for a maiden Joyce resource estimate
- 20m at 1,404ppm copper in EAL1687, with five additional holes pending

Joyce Niobium Zone Extends Across 400 Metres
Encounter Resources Limited (ASX:ENR) has moved Joyce from an intriguing drill target towards a potential addition to its Aileron resource base, reporting coherent high-grade niobium mineralisation across more than 400 metres of strike. The zone spans three drill sections, each 200 metres apart, and sits about 6 kilometres east of the Green deposit.
The strongest new result came from EAL2149, which returned 6 metres at 3.4% Nb₂O₅ from 127 metres to the end of the hole, within 45 metres at 1.2% Nb₂O₅ from 88 metres. EAL2150 delivered 2 metres at 3.9% Nb₂O₅ from 52 metres within a broader 63-metre interval grading 0.7% Nb₂O₅.
The results build on the earlier Joyce drilling, which identified shallow high-grade niobium intersections ending in mineralisation. Encounter now says multiple Joyce holes remain open at depth, creating two immediate drilling tasks: infill work to define continuity and deeper drilling to establish how far the mineralisation extends.
Resource Drilling Moves Into Focus
Encounter plans to use the follow-up programme to support a maiden Mineral Resource Estimate for Joyce. The prospect would sit alongside an existing Aileron Inferred Resource of 120 million tonnes at 0.77% Nb₂O₅, including a higher-grade 26Mt component at 1.7% Nb₂O₅. The company’s broader resource base had already grown to 120Mt during 2026, after the earlier Aileron resource expansion.
Those figures provide scale, but Joyce itself remains an exploration-stage discovery rather than a defined resource. The reported intersections are downhole lengths, not true widths, and Encounter states that the geometry of the mineralisation is not yet sufficiently understood. The company also cautions in its JORC disclosures that geological and grade continuity has not yet been demonstrated to the standard required for resource estimation.
Copper Anomalism Adds a Second Exploration Thread
Drilling in southern Joyce produced a separate copper signal, with EAL1687 returning 20 metres at 1,404 parts per million copper from 67 metres to the end of the 87-metre hole. The final sample returned 0.2% copper in weathered, potentially leached felsic schist, with the mineralisation associated with iron and silica alteration.
The hole sits where the Weddell and Stromness Faults intersect, a structural setting Encounter identifies as significant. Five further holes in the area still have assays pending, while samples from EAL1687 are being examined through mineralogy and petrology work. For now, the result is best treated as copper anomalism requiring confirmation and extension, not as evidence of a defined copper deposit.
Assays and Follow-Up Drilling Set the Next Test
Encounter says a substantial number of Aileron samples remain in the laboratory and expects a continued flow of results over the coming months. The important distinction is that the next Joyce update should begin to answer resource questions rather than simply add isolated intersections: how wide the zone is, whether grades persist between sections, and whether mineralisation continues below the current aircore drilling.
Bottom Line?
Joyce has cleared an important exploration hurdle, but its investment significance will depend on whether infill and deeper drilling convert impressive downhole hits into a resource with dependable true-width continuity.
Questions in the middle?
- Can infill drilling establish sufficient geological and grade continuity for a maiden Joyce resource estimate?
- How much of the reported downhole mineralisation represents true width and how far does it extend at depth?
- Will the pending copper assays show that EAL1687 is an isolated anomaly or part of a broader southern Joyce system?
