Skellerup opens FY27 with profit growth

Skellerup Holdings (NZX:SKL) has started its new financial year with first-quarter NPAT up 15% on the prior comparative period, giving the industrial products manufacturer enough confidence to issue initial FY27 guidance.

Chair John Strowger said demand remained strong across most applications served by the company, with the Industrial Division performing particularly well. Skellerup is now projecting FY27 NPAT of $67 million to $72 million.

New guidance follows a strong FY26 result

The forecast comes after Skellerup’s record FY26 earnings were reported, including a 24% increase in net profit to NZD 67.7 million and a tenth consecutive year of EBIT growth. That earlier result provides a useful reference point, although the current announcement does not state whether the new guidance is on a comparable basis or disclose the assumptions behind the range.

Skellerup’s FY26 performance was supported by international growth, including stronger US and European markets. The company’s latest update does not provide revenue guidance or break out the first-quarter result by division, so the extent to which the 15% NPAT increase reflects volume, pricing, mix or other factors is not yet clear.

Geopolitical and cost risks temper the outlook

Strowger paired the upbeat start with a warning that continued geopolitical unrest and the resulting cost increases could affect demand. The company did not quantify the potential impact, leaving the $67 million to $72 million range as an initial forecast rather than a detailed earnings framework.

The next test will be whether demand, particularly in Industrial, holds as those external pressures develop. Skellerup said its team remained focused on serving existing customers and pursuing new product and market opportunities, but the update offers no timetable or financial contribution targets for those initiatives.

Bottom Line?

The first-quarter result is encouraging, but the width of the FY27 range and limited detail on its assumptions leave demand and cost trends as the key variables.

Questions in the middle?

  • How much of the first-quarter NPAT growth came from underlying operating performance rather than mix, pricing or other factors?
  • Can Industrial Division demand remain strong if geopolitical disruption pushes costs higher?
  • Will Skellerup narrow or revise the $67m-$72m FY27 NPAT range at its next earnings update?
