New Murchison Gold turns Crown Prince cash into first shareholder payout

Mining By Maxwell Dee 3 min read

New Murchison Gold will return approximately $27 million to shareholders through its first fully franked dividend, following a strong first operating period at Crown Prince. The 0.25 cents-per-share payment is backed by reported cash generation and forecast flows from Crown Prince and Cloudkicker.

  • Approximately $27 million maiden dividend at 0.25 cents per share
  • Fully franked at a 30% corporate tax rate
  • Supported by $146.95 million net profit and $195.2 million operating cash flow
  • Dividend equals 15% of free cash flow for the nine months to 30 June 2026
  • Ex date is 6 November, with payment due on 26 November

Crown Prince cash flow funds first shareholder payout

New Murchison Gold Limited (ASX:NMG) is turning its first full operating period at Crown Prince into a direct shareholder return, declaring an approximately $27 million maiden dividend. The fully franked payment of 0.25 cents per share marks a notable shift for the gold producer from mine development and ramp-up towards capital distribution.

The payout follows a transitional nine-month financial period to 30 June 2026 in which New Murchison reported $146.951 million in net profit after tax, $195.198 million in operating cash flow and $201.730 million in cash and cash equivalents. Those figures were also central to the company's first-year financial results, which highlighted Crown Prince's cash generation while pointing to Cloudkicker, Lydia and the underground opportunity beneath Crown Prince as future tests of the operating model.

Dividend represents 15% of reported free cash flow

New Murchison said the dividend represents 15% of free cash flow generated during the nine-month period, calculated as operating cash flow less investing activities. The company did not disclose the underlying free cash flow figure in the announcement, but the stated ratio provides a measure of the payout against the cash left after investment rather than against accounting profit alone.

The board said it had also considered forecast cash flows from both Crown Prince and Cloudkicker. That matters because the return is being declared while New Murchison continues to invest in Cloudkicker and exploration aimed at delivering additional mines in the Murchison region. Cloudkicker had already entered production, with the company previously reporting a maiden Cloudkicker reserve of 21,000 ounces.

Fully franked payment arrives in November

The dividend is fully franked, with the ASX distribution notice recording a 30% corporate tax rate and no unfranked component. The ex-dividend date is 6 November 2026, the record date is 9 November and payment is scheduled for 26 November. New Murchison said it has no dividend reinvestment plan in place.

The decision is positive for shareholders, but it also establishes a benchmark for how the company balances distributions with mine investment and exploration. The board said it would continue to review its capital management strategy against business requirements; the next financial reporting will show whether Crown Prince and Cloudkicker can support both ambitions without reducing the pace of growth.

Bottom Line?

The maiden payout validates Crown Prince's early cash generation, but future distributions will depend on sustaining operations while funding Cloudkicker and further mine development.

Questions in the middle?

  • Can Crown Prince maintain the cash generation that supports the initial payout once sustaining capital and operating demands evolve?
  • How much free cash flow will remain after Cloudkicker investment and exploration spending?
  • Will the board retain a similar payout approach as Cloudkicker and other Murchison projects progress?
