Australian Silica Quartz Group has completed a 200-tonne bulk sample at White Swan and is preparing 50 tonnes for shipment to prospective Chinese customers. White Swan bulk sample moves to customer testing
Australian Silica Quartz Group Limited (ASX:ASQ) has moved its White Swan Kaolin Project from mine preparation into a more consequential test: whether prospective customers will accept the product. The company completed a roughly 200-tonne bulk excavation, bagged about 50 tonnes and transported that material to Perth for shipment to potential customers in China in the coming weeks.
White Swan carries a 47.3-million-tonne inferred kaolin resource and an approved development proposal for a 250,000-tonne-per-year, near-surface open-pit direct shipping ore operation. The project is about 35 kilometres by sealed road from Esperance’s deep-water port. ASQ has also received preliminary processing results in which a single dry separation stage lifted kaolinite content from about 47% to 83%.
The latest customer push builds on the company’s White Swan acquisition and approval, which added the resource and approved mining concept to ASQ’s portfolio. Management is pursuing multiple non-binding memorandums of understanding with potential buyers, with a company representative scheduled to visit Chinese customers alongside ASQ’s Chinese marketing team.
Commercial commitments remain ahead
The proposed MOUs would provide a framework for sample evaluation, application testing and future commercial discussions, rather than secure binding offtake or production revenue. ASQ says it intends to use customer feedback to assess development pathways and undertake a feasibility study based on exporting direct shipping ore within the parameters of any MOUs obtained.
That distinction matters. The resource is inferred, which the report says reflects uncertainty around the deposit’s location, shape and continuity, and the company has not reported an ore reserve or an operating mine. The next evidence will come from product qualification, customer responses and whether those discussions progress beyond non-binding arrangements.
Cash position makes the property sale important
ASQ reported $912,000 in cash and no debt at 30 September, down from $1.329 million at the end of the previous quarter. Operating activities consumed $542,000 during the quarter, comprising $256,000 on exploration and evaluation, $298,000 on administration and corporate costs, partly offset by $12,000 in interest receipts.
On the company’s calculation, that cash supported 1.7 quarters of funding at the current level of outgoings. ASQ said it expects to continue operating on the basis that its Mooramurra rural property near Bindoon will be sold, with the two subdivided lots currently on the market and proceeds earmarked for the work program and development plan. No sale timing or proceeds were disclosed.
ASQ also issued 100 million shares to the former Australian Kaolin shareholders during the quarter, with 90.7 million subject to voluntary escrow for up to 24 months, and issued 4.75 million shares to directors at $0.02 each after shareholder approval. The company reported $169,000 in related-party payments for the quarter, including directors’ salaries and superannuation, consulting fees and rent paid to associates.
Quartz and gold projects remain secondary workstreams
Outside White Swan, ASQ continued exploration at the Gilbert Ranges project in North Queensland, where 15 of 26 earlier rock-chip samples recorded more than 99.4% silicon dioxide, including a best result of 99.85%. The company plans more mapping and sampling once the relevant exploration permit and land access arrangements are in place.
High-purity quartz trials also continue, but the latest reported Lake Seabrook purification work reached 99.993% silicon dioxide, below the approximately 99.997% level ASQ identifies as the starting point for crucible-grade product. At Koolyanobbing, soil and rock-chip sampling across the Golden Wishbone trend and Golden Saddle area is complete, with results pending, while ASQ is seeking a funding or operating partner for its gold targets.
Bottom Line?
White Swan now has a tangible customer test ahead, but the development timetable remains tied to non-binding discussions and a property sale that must extend ASQ’s limited cash runway.
Questions in the middle?
- Will the 50-tonne shipment produce customer qualification or non-binding MOU commitments?
- When will the Bindoon property sell, and how much cash will it contribute to White Swan development?
- Can ASQ progress a feasibility study before its current cash position requires further funding?
