Centaurus Metals has identified more than 20 drill-ready copper-gold targets across its expanded 75km² Boi Novo Project in Brazil. The pipeline includes eight priority prospects at Rio Novo and 13 additional targets at the original Boi Novo tenure, but the results remain an exploration story rather than a new discovery or resource estimate.
- Eight priority prospects defined across Rio Novo
- Two copper corridors extend for about 5km each
- Rock chips returned up to 17.2% copper and 45g/t gold
- Thirteen additional targets generated at Boi Novo
- Drill planning is underway, with no new drilling results reported
More Than 20 Targets Enter the Drill Pipeline
Centaurus Metals Limited (ASX:CTM; OTCQX:CTTZF) has turned an expanded Brazilian landholding into a sizeable exploration pipeline, outlining more than 20 copper-gold targets across the 75km² Boi Novo Project. The work has produced eight priority prospects at the recently added Rio Novo tenure and 13 further targets outside the original Nelore focus area.
The immediate value of the announcement is scale and target definition, not a fresh drilling result. Centaurus says drill planning is underway across both tenures, while mapping, final soil assays, geophysics and land-access work continue. No new drilling results, mineral resource estimate or economic assessment was reported.
Rio Novo Produces Two Five-Kilometre Copper Corridors
Rio Novo, covering about 40km² directly north of the original Boi Novo ground, has returned two sub-parallel copper-in-soil corridors, each approximately 5km long. The eastern corridor produced soil readings of up to 3,500 parts per million copper and includes the Amazonas and Solimões prospects; the western corridor returned up to 2,000 parts per million copper and is associated with the Juruá and Trombetas structures.
Among the more eye-catching surface results, Solimões carries historic workings, rock chips grading up to 17.2% copper and 14.3 grams per tonne gold, and a historical drill intercept of 4.1 metres at 0.87% copper and 2.29g/t gold. At Juruá, a roughly 1km gold-in-soil anomaly sits within a coincident copper-gold-bismuth anomaly, with rock chips returning up to 45g/t gold. These are selective surface samples or historical results, so they indicate areas for testing rather than representative grades across the prospects.
Magnetics and FLEM Narrow the First Drill Questions
Centaurus’ interpretation is being supported by a drone magnetics survey over Rio Novo and 12 fixed-loop electromagnetic surveys covering 89.7 line-kilometres. The company says the magnetic data has mapped structures controlling the copper anomalies and extended the Juruá-Trombetas structure by about 2.5km to the south-east. FLEM conductors coincide with copper-in-soil anomalies in several areas, including Amazonas and Juruá.
The target list includes Solimões West, Amazonas West, Juruá East, Trombetas and Xingú alongside the headline prospects. Xingú, for example, returned copper-in-soil values of up to 2,200ppm over a magnetic structure, while Trombetas hosts a 700m by 500m copper anomaly with magnetite-rich quartz veining. The next test is whether these surface and geophysical signatures translate into continuous sulphide mineralisation at depth.
Nelore Extensions Add Depth to the Existing Boi Novo Story
At the original Boi Novo tenure, Centaurus has generated 13 targets beyond the Nelore prospects, which have so far been the main drilling focus. The company is also preparing deeper drilling beneath a granite sill at Nelore West, where previously reported intersections included 5.5m at 8.38% copper and 36.7m at 1.58% copper. Nelore East has returned historical intersections of 11.5m at 2.84% copper and 0.90g/t gold, and 6.8m at 1.89% copper and 1.08g/t gold.
Other priority areas include Bufalo, where copper-in-soil anomalies run across 2.8km of prospective strike, and Zebu, which contains a 1,500m by 700m anomaly above 2,500ppm copper. Boi Novo sits close to established infrastructure, including Vale’s copper-gold load-out facility about 35km away and CoreX’s Antas Norte flotation plant less than 20km from the project. That proximity is relevant if exploration advances, although the release does not establish an economic development case.
Drilling Must Convert Geochemical Promise
Centaurus plans to continue Rio Novo sampling and mapping through the rest of 2026, complete further FLEM work and rank the targets before finalising the next drill program. The company’s corporate focus remains on advancing its Jaguar nickel project towards a Final Investment Decision, leaving Boi Novo as an exploration pipeline competing for attention and capital.
The decisive evidence has not arrived yet. Investors now have to distinguish a compelling target map from a defined deposit: the coming drill program, its timing, and the continuity and widths of any sulphide intersections will determine whether Boi Novo’s extensive surface anomalies become something more substantial.
Bottom Line?
The exploration pipeline is broad and technically supported, but the next value test is drilling: surface anomalies still need to become coherent mineralised zones at depth.
Questions in the middle?
- When will Centaurus commit to a firm start date and scope for drilling across Rio Novo and Boi Novo?
- Will final soil assays and follow-up FLEM identify a smaller group of targets with stronger depth potential?
- Can drilling beneath the Nelore West granite sill confirm that the high-grade system continues down plunge?
