Brightstar Resources has secured A$82 million to accelerate exploration and early development work at Sandstone, where Two Mile Hill is emerging as a potential cornerstone asset. Genesis Minerals will invest A$30 million for a 5.4% stake, while Brightstar says Goldfields construction remains separately funded and on schedule for first gold in the June quarter of 2027.
- A$82 million single-tranche placement at A$0.50 per share
- Genesis Minerals invests A$30 million for a 5.4% Brightstar stake
- Funding targets Two Mile Hill drilling, underground studies and infrastructure
- Sandstone PFS due this quarter, followed by a DFS
- Goldfields construction remains on budget and scheduled for first gold in JunQ’27
A$82 Million Placement Recasts Sandstone’s Work Program
Brightstar Resources Limited (ASX:BTR) has raised A$82 million to move faster at Sandstone, after drilling pushed the scale of its Two Mile Hill opportunity well beyond the assumptions behind its earlier study program. The single-tranche placement will issue 164 million shares at A$0.50 each, with Genesis Minerals Limited (ASX:GMD) contributing A$30 million and taking its stake in Brightstar from 0.8% to approximately 5.4%.
The issue price represents a 12% discount to Brightstar’s 22 October closing price of A$0.565 and a 19% discount to its 30-day volume-weighted average price of A$0.62. That discount and the increase in shares on issue are the immediate cost of bringing in institutional capital, but the company says the proceeds are directed to a more ambitious Sandstone program rather than to its near-term Goldfields build.
Two Mile Hill Moves Towards Underground Development
Two Mile Hill-Shillington now carries a 1.45 million-ounce Mineral Resource at 1.8 grams per tonne gold, up from 731,000 ounces, with Indicated Resources rising 177% to 526,000 ounces. The broader Sandstone resource stands at 3.6 million ounces. The updated estimate does not include the deeper Shirvington Zone drilling, leaving the next round of exploration potentially important to the project’s eventual shape.
Brightstar’s latest funding follows the deep Two Mile Hill drilling results, which included a 305-metre intersection grading 1.33 grams per tonne gold from 584 metres. A multi-rig, approximately 6,500-metre diamond program has now commenced to test extensions of the Shirvington Zone, while further infill drilling is intended to support underground mining studies and resource conversion.
The company also plans to test nearby Two Mile Hill analogue targets, accelerate feasibility-study drilling across the Sandstone tenure and advance infrastructure, a camp and an underground exploration decline. Brightstar says this work is intended to support an “early mining” strategy at Two Mile Hill, although any future mine plan remains dependent on drilling, studies and execution.
Genesis Investment Adds a Strategic Shareholder
Genesis will subscribe for 60 million new shares on the same terms as other placement participants. Its focus on the Leonora-Laverton district, which hosts Brightstar’s Goldfields Project, gives the investment a regional strategic angle, although the announcement does not disclose any operational arrangement between the companies.
The Sandstone Pre-Feasibility Study is targeted for release this quarter, with Brightstar planning an immediate transition into a Definitive Feasibility Study that incorporates a more comprehensive underground assessment of Two Mile Hill. The company’s recent resource upgrade had already positioned Sandstone for a larger study program, as outlined in the 1.45Moz Two Mile Hill resource upgrade.
Goldfields Funding Remains Separate
Brightstar says construction of the Goldfields Project remains on budget and on schedule for first gold in the June quarter of 2027. The Laverton processing plant, being delivered by GR Engineering Services, is approximately 47% complete. Construction is funded separately through the February 2026 equity raising and a US$120 million senior secured bond, with the company saying the bond’s commercial conditions have been approved and its documentary conditions agreed for execution.
That separation matters: the new equity is intended to fund Sandstone, while bond proceeds remain dedicated to Goldfields. The central test now shifts to execution at Two Mile Hill. The drilling must establish whether the deep Shirvington mineralisation can support a meaningful resource and underground case before the accelerated capital program can translate into a defined second development pathway.
Bottom Line?
The placement gives Brightstar room to pursue a larger Sandstone opportunity, but the next value-defining evidence will come from Shirvington drilling and the pending PFS rather than from the size of the cheque alone.
Questions in the middle?
- Will the 6,500-metre Shirvington Zone program establish enough continuity and scale to support an underground resource update?
- What mine configuration and capital requirements will emerge from the Sandstone PFS and subsequent DFS?
- Can Brightstar maintain Goldfields’ June-quarter 2027 first-gold schedule while expanding Sandstone’s development program?
