Brightstar Resources has secured A$82 million from institutional and strategic investors, including a A$30 million cornerstone investment from Genesis Minerals. The funding will accelerate drilling, feasibility work and early mine development at the Sandstone Gold Project while Goldfields construction remains separately funded for first gold in the June quarter of 2027.
- A$82 million single-tranche placement at A$0.50 per share
- Genesis Minerals to hold approximately 5.4% of Brightstar after investing A$30 million
- Funding targets Two Mile Hill drilling, an underground exploration decline and Sandstone infrastructure
- Two Mile Hill-Shillington resource has doubled to 1.45Moz at 1.8g/t gold
- Goldfields Project remains on schedule, on budget and fully funded for first gold in June quarter 2027
Genesis takes strategic stake as Brightstar expands Sandstone program
Brightstar Resources Limited (ASX:BTR) has raised A$82 million to accelerate the development of its Sandstone Gold Project, with Genesis Minerals Limited subscribing for A$30 million and emerging with an approximately 5.4% stake. The single-tranche placement priced 164 million new shares at A$0.50 each, a 12% discount to Brightstar’s last closing price of A$0.565 on 22 October.
The capital is aimed at a larger and faster work program around Two Mile Hill, which Brightstar now describes as emerging as Sandstone’s cornerstone asset. The company plans more infill and extensional drilling, further testing of nearby analogue targets, and work toward an early mining strategy that includes infrastructure, a camp and an underground exploration decline.
Two Mile Hill drilling drives funding decision
Brightstar says the scale of the opportunity changed materially after the Two Mile Hill-Shillington Mineral Resource doubled to 1.45 million ounces at 1.8 grams per tonne of gold. The broader Sandstone Project resource now stands at 3.6 million ounces, although the updated estimate does not yet include the deeper Shirvington Zone drilling.
Recent results cited in the announcement include a 305.4-metre intersection grading 1.82g/t gold, a 225.7-metre intersection grading 3.11g/t, and a 305-metre intersection grading 1.33g/t from 584 metres. Those results remain exploration results rather than a production plan, and the company has started a multi-rig, approximately 6,500-metre diamond drilling program to test extensions of the Shirvington Zone.
The new funding will also support an enlarged Definitive Feasibility Study program and an underground mining study being advanced with Entech. Brightstar is targeting release of the Sandstone Pre-Feasibility Study this quarter before moving immediately into the DFS, with the stated aim of incorporating a more comprehensive assessment of Two Mile Hill.
Goldfields funding remains separate from Sandstone raise
The placement is not being used to shore up the near-term Goldfields Project. Brightstar says construction of the Laverton processing plant remains on schedule and on budget for first gold in the June quarter of 2027, with the plant approximately 47% complete. Goldfields is funded through the February 2026 equity raising and US$120 million of senior secured bonds, while the bond proceeds remain dedicated to that project.
Brightstar also said all commercial conditions it must satisfy under the bond have been approved by the Nordic Trustee, with the documentary conditions agreed and ready for execution. That removes one stated funding-process hurdle, although the company will still need to execute both the construction schedule at Goldfields and the accelerated exploration and study program at Sandstone. The new shares are expected to begin trading on 3 November, leaving investors to assess whether the enlarged Sandstone ambition can justify the dilution and discounted issue price.
Bottom Line?
The raise gives Brightstar room to pursue a more ambitious Two Mile Hill strategy, but the next test is whether drilling and the Sandstone studies convert geological scale into a mineable development case.
Questions in the middle?
- Will the Shirvington Zone drilling add material ounces to the next Two Mile Hill resource estimate?
- Can the early mining strategy produce a credible path from exploration decline to underground production?
- Will Goldfields remain on its June quarter 2027 first-gold schedule as construction moves through its peak spending period?
