Athena’s Narryer results point toward a December resource milestone
Athena Resources has completed its Narryer drilling campaign, reporting concentrate grades above the company’s stated direct-reduction benchmark and bringing forward a potential maiden resource estimate to the December 2026 quarter. The exploration progress comes with only A$1.382 million in cash and an estimated 1.06 quarters of funding at quarter end.
- 33 Narryer holes completed across 2,381.4 metres
- Weighted average concentrate grades of 67.44% Fe at Narryer Main and 69.70% Fe at Narryer Southwest
- Four Narryer Main intercepts measured 40 metres or more
- Maiden Mineral Resource Estimate now targeted for the December 2026 quarter
- Cash balance fell to A$1.382 million, with further funding potentially required

Narryer drilling clears the way for a December resource estimate
Athena Resources Limited (ASX:AHN) has finished the drilling program that could define its first Mineral Resource Estimate at Narryer, with the company now targeting completion in the December 2026 quarter rather than the March quarter of 2027. The campaign comprised 33 holes for 2,381.4 metres across the 100%-owned Western Australian project.

The results add weight to the near-term development case, without yet establishing one. Four Narryer Main holes returned intercepts of at least 40 metres, including 44 metres at 31.79% iron from 109 metres in AHRC0151 and 40 metres at 34.60% iron from 67 metres in AHRC0154. The company’s earlier Narryer drilling campaign was aimed at defining a maiden resource, and this quarter’s report marks the transition from fieldwork to geological modelling.
Southwest target extends the exploration opportunity

A single 100-metre RC hole at Narryer Southwest, about 6 kilometres from Narryer Main, intersected 31 metres at 32.74% iron from 55 metres. Athena says the result confirms magnetite mineralisation across two subparallel magnetic units with a combined strike length of about 1.8 kilometres, most of which remains untested.
Davis Tube Recovery testing produced a weighted average concentrate grade of 67.44% Fe at 33.48% mass recovery from 89 Narryer Main composites. Eight Southwest composites returned 69.70% Fe at 40.38% mass recovery. Athena notes that direct-reduction iron ore feed typically requires 67% Fe or more, although these composite metallurgical results do not by themselves demonstrate project economics, mineability or commercial production.
Exploration progress meets a tighter funding runway
The quarter’s cash flow points to the constraint sitting behind the exploration success. Athena ended September with A$1.382 million in cash, after spending A$1.025 million on exploration and evaluation and A$279,000 on administration and corporate costs. The company received A$934,000 in final Tranche 2 placement funds, but still reported estimated funding of only 1.06 quarters based on its current outgoings.
Athena said expenditure is expected to reduce after drilling was completed and that it will examine opportunities to raise further cash when appropriate. It also reported ongoing discussions with technology partners on reduction testing for concentrate from the Byro Project, but no binding agreements have been signed. The next decisive test is therefore twofold: whether the Narryer modelling produces a meaningful resource, and whether the company can fund the approvals, follow-up work and development studies needed to advance it.
Bottom Line?
The December resource estimate is the next major valuation event, but its significance will depend on scale, confidence and the capital available to move Narryer beyond exploration.
Questions in the middle?
- What tonnes, confidence categories and grades will the maiden Narryer Mineral Resource Estimate contain?
- Will follow-up drilling confirm that Narryer Southwest’s 1.8 kilometres of magnetic strike can add material scale?
- When and on what terms will Athena need to raise capital to fund approvals, metallurgical work and further drilling?
