1414 Degrees builds momentum across Aurora and SiNTL battery materials
1414 Degrees has sharpened the commercial case for its Aurora precinct, signing a pathway agreement for up to 1 GW of AI data centre infrastructure and attracting potential partners for a A$350 million to A$550 million first-stage energy project. Its SiNTL battery material also showed sustained performance over more than 640 cycles, although both programs remain some distance from binding commercial revenue.
- Heads of Agreement for up to 1 GW of AI data centre infrastructure at Aurora
- Stage One process launched for a 140 MW BESS and 70 MW solar project
- Full ownership of SiliconAurora and Aurora secured after quarter end
- SiNTL formulation maintained approximately 550 mAh/g for more than 640 cycles
- A$4.923 million cash balance equated to 4.2 quarters of reported funding

Aurora moves from project concept towards commercial negotiations
For 1414 Degrees Limited (ASX:14D), the most consequential development in its September quarter was not another technology milestone but a clearer route to monetising the Aurora Energy Precinct. The company signed a Heads of Agreement with an Australian data centre operator covering a proposed staged development of up to 1 GW of AI data centre infrastructure, with the operator receiving exclusivity over a 40-hectare area while commercial and infrastructure arrangements are negotiated.
The agreement is not a final development contract. Its significance lies in giving the 16 km² South Australian site a potential anchor customer while 1414 Degrees advances a 33 kV distribution connection along Aurora’s western boundary. The company says that pathway could support earlier, lower-cost operations for modular data centres and other energy-intensive users ahead of the larger proposed 275 kV transmission connection. The data centre opportunity builds on the 1 GW AI data centre agreement reported in July, when 1414 Degrees also outlined new SiNTL commercialisation plans.
Funding process opens for 140 MW battery and 70 MW solar project
1414 Degrees has also begun seeking funding and development partners for Aurora’s Stage One: a 140 MW/280 MWh battery energy storage system and an initial 70 MW solar PV project designed to support up to 70 MW of firm renewable power on the 275 kV transmission line. National and international energy and infrastructure groups have accessed the project data room, with indicative development capital estimated at A$350 million to A$550 million.
The timetable targets partner selection in December 2026, financial close in early 2027 and commercial operations in 2028/29, subject to financing, commercial agreements and project requirements. AEMO and ElectraNet have accepted the BESS Generator Performance Standards, while negotiations with BHP under the H2H term sheet continue over access to the transmission infrastructure. These are meaningful steps, but the commercial architecture is still being assembled.
After quarter end, 1414 Degrees completed its acquisition of Vast Solar Aurora, giving it full ownership of SiliconAurora and the precinct. The consolidation removes the previous joint venture structure from negotiations with prospective customers, financiers and infrastructure partners, as detailed in the full Aurora ownership deal. The company also placed an order for 5B Maverick prefabricated solar systems for the initial 70 MW development, though delivery and installation remain conditional on technical, commercial and financing arrangements.
SiNTL testing strengthens the battery materials case
SiNTL produced the quarter’s clearest laboratory signal. Testing at George Washington University showed a formulation delivering approximately 550 mAh/g through more than 640 charge-discharge cycles while maintaining acceptable capacity. 1414 Degrees says that result is around 50% above conventional graphite anodes. A newer formulation reached approximately 600 mAh/g in early-stage testing, but that result has not yet established the same cycling record.
The program is now moving from performance testing towards production and external evaluation. Agreements with Italian satellite manufacturer Space Industries and South Korean battery maker JR Energy Solution support work on satellite applications and scalable electrode and cell manufacturing, adding to the earlier Korean battery partnership. A post-quarter A$1 million accelerated program will expand production at George Washington University and the company’s Tonsley facility, with cells planned for delivery to commercial evaluation partners in the first half of 2027.
Cash position improves, but commercial conversion remains ahead
Cash and cash equivalents stood at A$4.923 million at 30 September, up A$3.165 million from the previous quarter. Operating activities used A$1.171 million and investing activities used A$676,000, while financing activities provided A$5.012 million, including A$2.125 million from option exercises. On the reported quarterly operating cash use, the Appendix 4C calculates approximately 4.2 quarters of funding.
The company is prioritising Aurora and SiNTL as nearer-term revenue opportunities, while SiBox industrial heat activity has progressed more slowly than hoped. Construction of the SiPHyR prototype continues, with commissioning targeted for March 2027 and a design capacity of approximately 20 kg of hydrogen and up to 60 kg of solid carbon per day. The next test for 1414 Degrees is whether prospective agreements become binding commitments: partner selection, financial close, connection arrangements and third-party battery qualification are all still ahead.
Bottom Line?
The quarter improves 1414 Degrees’ commercial visibility, but the valuation case still depends on converting prospective Aurora agreements and SiNTL testing into funded projects and qualified products.
Questions in the middle?
- Will the Aurora partner process produce a selected developer and financial close on the targeted timetable?
- Can the 33 kV pathway support early revenue before the larger 275 kV transmission connection is secured?
- Will SiNTL retain its cycling performance when production is scaled and cells undergo independent commercial evaluation in 2027?
