Lac Gold’s Rouyn assays build momentum ahead of 2027 resource update

Mining By Maxwell Dee 6 min read

Lac Gold says fresh assays from its Rouyn Gold Project show broad mineralised envelopes with higher-grade internal zones, supporting its plan to grow the existing 1.66Moz resource. The next major test is an updated resource estimate targeted for the March 2027 quarter, while the company’s A$9.85 million cash balance leaves limited room for delay or a sharp increase in drilling spend.

  • 20 new Astoria drillholes return broad and higher-grade gold intersections
  • 19 holes completed for 8,969 metres during the quarter
  • Updated Rouyn resource estimate to include 52 holes from 2026 drilling
  • Resource remains 1.66Moz at 3.28g/t Au across Indicated and Inferred categories
  • A$9.85 million cash and 2.83 quarters of estimated funding remaining

Astoria assays extend the Rouyn growth case

Lac Gold Limited (ASX:LAC) has added another layer of evidence to its Rouyn resource-growth strategy, with assays from 20 Astoria drillholes showing broad mineralised envelopes carrying higher-grade internal zones. The standout result was AS-26-808, which returned 7.50 metres at 11.17g/t gold and 12 metres at 3.68g/t gold inside broader intervals of 46.50 metres at 1.99g/t and 24 metres at 1.92g/t.

Other notable results included 8 metres at 5.12g/t in AS-26-806, 2 metres at 17.08g/t in AS-26-804, 2.90 metres at 10.78g/t in AS-26-802 and 5.10 metres at 5.46g/t in AS-26-817. The latest results build on the earlier Astoria drilling results, which had also reported broad and high-grade intersections ahead of the same resource update.

Lac Gold interprets the pattern as a large, structurally controlled orogenic gold system, with broad shear-hosted alteration defining the system’s scale and more concentrated gold zones developing within favourable structures. That interpretation remains geological rather than economic: the reported intersections are downhole lengths, and true widths are not yet known.

Resource estimate becomes the next decisive test

Rouyn currently holds a JORC 2012 Mineral Resource Estimate of 15.8 million tonnes at 3.28g/t gold for 1.66 million ounces, split between 976,000 ounces in the Indicated category and 690,000 ounces in Inferred. The mineralised corridor extends for about seven kilometres and remains open along strike and at depth, according to the company.

Measured Group has started work on an updated estimate incorporating 52 holes from Lac Gold’s 2026 drilling campaign, historical drilling and a revised geological interpretation. Completion is targeted for the March 2027 quarter. The estimate is intended to show how much of the new drilling can improve confidence, alter the geometry of the deposit or add material to the existing resource, rather than simply provide another collection of attractive assays.

Drilling continues while technical work broadens

Lac Gold completed 19 diamond holes for 8,969 metres during the September quarter, taking its 2026 total to 73 holes and 29,520 metres. Drilling will continue around Astoria, targeting open mineralisation, internal extensions and offshoots while the company receives remaining assays and designs the next phase of work.

Metallurgical testwork has also been approved for argillite-hosted mineralisation, which accounts for about 10% of the current Rouyn resource. Preliminary ecological work, rehabilitation of completed drill areas and community engagement progressed alongside the exploration program, including a second community meeting and a site visit by the Rouyn Project monitoring committee.

Cash position places a limit on exploration pace

The company ended September with A$9.85 million in cash after spending A$2.735 million on exploration and evaluation during the quarter. Including staff, administration and corporate costs, relevant quarterly outgoings were A$3.478 million, producing an estimated 2.83 quarters of funding at the reported rate and with no financing facilities available.

That position is stronger in absolute terms than the previous quarter’s reported A$13.34 million cash balance only in the sense that drilling has converted cash into exploration activity; it does not remove the funding question. The company’s earlier funding pressure warning had highlighted uncertainty around future obligations, while the current report provides no new financing commitment. Rouyn remains the immediate capital priority, with Pickle Lake’s Golden Patricia data compilation continuing at a slower pace.

Bottom Line?

The assays have improved the geological case for Rouyn, but the March 2027 resource estimate must convert encouraging intersections into measurable resource growth before the cash runway becomes the louder story.

Questions in the middle?

  • How much of the 2026 drilling will translate into additional ounces or higher-confidence resource categories?
  • Will continued drilling maintain the current spending rate, or will Lac Gold need to secure additional funding before the resource update?
  • Can metallurgical, environmental and community work advance quickly enough to support a credible development pathway beyond exploration?
