Critical Metals commits A$5 million to Power Minerals
Power Minerals Limited (ASX:PNN) has secured the kind of backing junior explorers rarely obtain without first passing a significant geological test: a A$5 million strategic investment from Nasdaq-listed Critical Metals Corp (Nasdaq: CRML), made through its Australian subsidiary European Lithium Limited (ASX:EUR). The deal is priced at A$0.14 a share and would leave the EUR-CRML group with an approximately 8% cornerstone holding in Power.
The placement will issue 35,714,286 fully paid ordinary shares under Power’s existing ASX Listing Rule 7.1 capacity. It also includes 17,857,143 unlisted options, exercisable at A$0.18 and expiring three years after issue, although those options require shareholder and other necessary approvals. The proposed transaction prompted ASX to lift Power’s trading suspension immediately after the investment announcement.
Morro do Ferro receives a larger drilling budget
Power plans to direct the placement proceeds to an expanded drilling campaign at Morro do Ferro in Brazil, targeting the mineralised system at depth and supporting resource definition and development planning. The company says drilling has continued to return high-grade rare earth mineralisation from surface and at depth, with the system remaining open in multiple directions.
The new funding arrives after a run of strong exploration headlines, including the deep Morro do Ferro drilling results that extended mineralisation to 242 metres downhole. Power’s latest announcement does not convert those exploration results into a resource or establish economic viability; the next phase is intended to provide more of the geological definition needed for those assessments.
Strategic shareholder brings international reach
Critical Metals says the investment fits its existing portfolio of critical minerals assets, including the Tanbreez rare earth deposit in Greenland and the Wolfsberg lithium project in Austria. Power also points to the group’s stated market capitalisation of about US$1.2 billion and total cash balance of A$500 million as potential advantages for future collaboration, international funding access and project development opportunities.
Those possibilities remain prospective rather than committed. The filing documents the equity investment and its use for exploration, but it does not announce a joint venture, project-level funding agreement or development transaction between the companies.
Seismic survey and metallurgy remain the next tests
Alongside drilling, Power is running a passive seismic survey designed to map subsurface layers and assist its understanding of the mineralisation’s geometry at depth. Mineralogy studies are also being used to shape metallurgical test work, with initial outcomes expected during the current quarter. Results from the drilling, seismic work and metallurgy will determine how convincingly the discovery can move from promising intersections towards a defined and potentially developable project.
Bottom Line?
The placement removes an immediate funding constraint for deeper exploration, but the investment’s larger strategic promise still depends on drilling, metallurgy and approvals delivering substance beyond the headline stake.
Questions in the middle?
- Will the expanded drilling campaign demonstrate continuity and scale sufficient to support a maiden resource?
- What will the initial metallurgical work show about recovering rare earths from Morro do Ferro mineralisation?
- Will the proposed options and any future CRML collaboration translate into additional funding or remain purely strategic?
