Viva Energy has reported a stronger-than-expected first half EBITDA, buoyed by operational efficiencies and refinery margins, even as convenience sales face headwinds from tobacco regulation.

Viva Energy delivered a slight increase in sales volumes for 4Q2024 and a record Commercial & Industrial segment performance, despite a disruptive refinery outage and challenging retail conditions. The company also secured key approvals for its Liberty Convenience acquisition, aiming for completion by March 2025.

Viva Energy's Geelong Refinery experienced an unscheduled shutdown due to a power outage caused by a lightning storm. Restart efforts are underway, with normal operations expected to resume within two weeks.
