Ball’s shipments rise as a pension charge masks stronger operating earnings

Ball’s adjusted earnings rise as pension charge drives US$94 million loss

Ball’s operating performance strengthened in the third quarter, with comparable EPS, operating earnings and global shipments all higher year on year. But a US$475 million noncash pension settlement charge pushed the aluminum packaging group to a US$94 million GAAP loss and cash generation remains thin.
