Centaurus Secures Jaguar’s 20MW Power Link
Centaurus Metals has signed the contract securing initial 20MW of 230kV grid power for its Jaguar nickel project in Brazil. The infrastructure milestone removes one development hurdle, while funding negotiations and final connection approvals remain outstanding.
- 20MW of initial grid capacity secured
- 230kV connection to run through a 36km transmission line
- Environmental, mining and transmission easement approvals already in place
- Aneel authorisation and a connection contract still required
- Offtake, strategic funding and senior debt negotiations remain underway

20MW Power Contract Signed for Jaguar
Centaurus Metals Limited (ASX:CTM) has secured a formal foothold on Brazil’s high-voltage electricity network, signing a Transmission System Use Contract for its Jaguar Nickel Sulphide Project in Pará. The agreement gives Jaguar initial access to 20MW through Brazil’s 230kV national transmission system.
The power will travel along a 36km transmission line to Jaguar’s main substation. Centaurus says the connection is expected to provide steady, reliable and low-cost electricity, with largely renewable grid power supporting the project’s anticipated bottom-quartile position on the global nickel cost curve. That remains the company’s assessment rather than a disclosed operating result.
Transmission Infrastructure Moves Closer to Construction
The contract follows regulatory approval from Brazil’s National Electricity System Operator in July. Centaurus says the environmental and mining approvals needed for the line are already secured, as is the mining easement required for construction. The signed CUST therefore takes the project beyond a preliminary access approval and into a more defined transmission arrangement.
It is not, however, the final administrative step. Centaurus must submit the signed contract and connection documents to Brazil’s National Electric Energy Agency for authorisation of Jaguar’s connection facilities. It also plans to enter a Transmission Connection Contract with the concession holder of the existing power line.
Funding Package Still Sets the Pace
Centaurus is positioning the power agreement as an infrastructure de-risking milestone ahead of a Final Investment Decision. The company says negotiations and final documentation for additional offtake and strategic funding are at an advanced stage, while the senior debt financing process is also well advanced.
No funding amounts, debt terms, offtake counterparties or firm FID date were disclosed in the announcement. The next material tests are therefore practical as much as financial: Aneel authorisation, execution of the connection contract and completion of the broader funding package that Centaurus says is intended to support project development.
Bottom Line?
Grid access is now substantially more tangible, but Jaguar still needs connection authorisation and financing commitments before the infrastructure milestone can translate into an investment decision.
Questions in the middle?
- When will Aneel authorise Jaguar’s connection facilities?
- What terms and counterparties will emerge from the additional offtake and strategic funding negotiations?
- Will the senior debt package be finalised in time to support the company’s planned Final Investment Decision?
