Lightning Minerals Turns Six Lachlan Fold Belt Licences Into Funded Drilling
Lightning Minerals has secured A$100,000 in non-dilutive cash and a funded 400-metre drilling commitment by granting Kincora Copper a nine-month option over six Lachlan Fold Belt licences. The deal could deliver another A$350,000, but only if Kincora exercises the option, approvals are obtained and a key tenement is renewed.
- A$100,000 non-refundable option fee already received
- Kincora to fund at least 400 metres of diamond drilling
- Six licences cover approximately 1,269 square kilometres across NSW and Victoria
- Up to A$350,000 in further cash and Kincora shares remains conditional
- Lightning retains ownership unless the option is exercised and completed

A$100,000 Arrives Before Any Tenement Sale
Lightning Minerals Limited (ASX:L1M) has found a useful middle ground between selling ground outright and continuing to fund it itself: Kincora Copper Limited (ASX:KCC) has paid a non-refundable A$100,000 for an exclusive nine-month option over six Lachlan Fold Belt exploration licences.
The cash has already been received, giving Lightning non-dilutive funding without issuing shares. Kincora will also carry exploration, permitting, land access and statutory holding costs during the option period, including annual tenement rent of more than A$24,000 across the portfolio.
400 Metres of Drilling Required at Boree Creek South
The most tangible work commitment is at Boree Creek South, where Kincora must complete at least 400 metres of diamond drilling during the option period. The commitment gives Lightning-funded activity on EL9273 while leaving the company’s own capital and management resources available for its priority assets.
The option covers five New South Wales licences and one in north-eastern Victoria, together spanning approximately 1,269 square kilometres. Kincora can elect to acquire all or only some of the licences, so the eventual transaction may be narrower than the current portfolio.
Further Consideration Depends on Exercise

If Kincora exercises the option and the parties complete the required documentation and approvals, Lightning would receive a further A$100,000 in cash and A$150,000 worth of Kincora shares. A further A$100,000 in Kincora shares is tied to the full renewal of EL9273, which currently expires on 27 August 2027.
That produces a maximum stated consideration of A$450,000 including the option fee already received. The remaining A$350,000 is not assured: the option could lapse, completion requires regulatory and ministerial approvals, and the share component will be calculated using the deed’s seven-day VWAP mechanism.
Portfolio Simplification Brings a Funded Exit Route

The transaction gives practical effect to Lightning’s stated 2026-2029 strategy of concentrating capital and management attention on Mt Turner, Warby and its Western Australian gold portfolio. That shift comes after the company’s gold and copper pivot, which followed a reported A$6.79 million FY2026 loss and a major impairment of lithium exploration assets.
For Kincora, the option adds ground inside a district where it says it has nine active projects, more than 20,000 metres of completed drilling and partner-funded exploration relationships. Its reported cash position was approximately A$13 million at 30 September 2026, although the announcement does not specify how much of that balance would be allocated to this portfolio.
The Nine-Month Test Now Begins
The value of the arrangement will be tested through execution rather than announcement. Kincora must progress permitting, land access and exploration, with the Boree Creek South drilling commitment offering the clearest near-term milestone. Lightning, meanwhile, retains ownership of the licences unless Kincora exercises the option and completion occurs.
The central question is whether the funded work converts a portfolio Lightning has chosen to prioritise less heavily into either a completed transaction or useful exploration information, while the company directs its limited resources toward Mt Turner, Warby and Western Australia.
Bottom Line?
The immediate cash and funded drilling are certain; the larger consideration and any eventual transfer remain contingent on Kincora’s work, option decision, approvals and EL9273 renewal.
Questions in the middle?
- Will Kincora complete the committed 400 metres of drilling at Boree Creek South within the nine-month option period?
- Will Kincora exercise the option over all six licences or select only part of the portfolio?
- Can Lightning’s remaining cash and management resources support progress at Mt Turner, Warby and its Western Australian projects?
